Product Description

Amy Pearson's family is desperately poor - even by the standards of Edwardian Liverpool - but they have each other.  Until Amy is torn from her home by her rich aunt, a woman obsessed by religion and snobbery who wants a girl she can mould as she wishes.  Clever and pretty, ten-year-old Amy is perfect for her purposes.

It is the beginning of a long journey for Amy, as she desperately searches for the family she lost, and a home where she can be free at last from her aunt's possessive tyranny.  But she will have to endure a forced marriage and a tragic war before she can at last find what she seeks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Will please Audrey's loyal fans, 11 Aug 2008
By H (Milton Keynes) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Long Way Home (Hardcover)
Being an Audrey Howard fan, this book did not disappoint. It delivered everything I expect from one of her books. In fact, I thought it was one of her best. You can't help but feel much empathy for both Amy and Joe, the lead female and male characters. Set against a backdrop of Liverpool, Manchester, France during the First World War, and lastly the Lake District, this book is not only a love story but the touching (and admirable) story of how one girl fights for her liberty.

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving story that gripped me til the very last word, 22 Jan 2009
I have never read a book by Audrey Howard and this one just jumped off of the shelf at me, so I put it on my christmas list a sure enough it was bought for me. I started reading it and knew immediately it would be hard to put this one down. A story of love, heartache and suffering truly showing the true meaning to have true and supportive family and friends. This story had me, laughing, crying, and often gripping the edge of my seat. The characters and their relationships were so real you really feel that you are taking this journey with them. Definitely recommend. I am now about to start reading Howard's other books. Amazing, truly amazing
