3.0 out of 5 stars QUATERMASS II 16 Feb 2011
By HAYLING BOOK & MUSIC VENUE (HBMV) TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
I have never heard the original Quatermass album but I know it sold well. This sequel features one original band member, Mick Underwood, the drummer. However, the line up is bolstered by Nick Simper (ex Deep Purple Mk 1, Fandango and The Pirates) who gives the album a polished edge. This is a respectably good rock album - the songs are solid, the vocals and musicianship strong. It has plenty enough to recommend it to any rock music fan - a good listen.

As a footnote, Nick Simper mentioned to me that the band and name came about over a drink at a music convention. Nick and Mick Underwood were talking about forming a band when an ex-Deep Purple manager chipped in and suggested they revived the Quatermass name - as Quatermass II...and the rest is history.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quatermass II - 'Long Road' (Angel Air) 18 Nov 2007
Format:Audio CD
Guess this is a follow-up to the self-titled Quatermass lp that emerged in 1970. Heard that album literally went out as quick as it came. 'Long Road' is a reunion of the band, with just one original member - drummer Mick Underwood. Joining up here with Underwood Nick Simpler (Deep Purple's original bass player) and two top session players Gary David and Bart Foley. 'Long Road' might be a less bit progressive than the first lp, but more basic rock and roll. Some of the tracks that I thought were decent are "Good Day To Die", title cut "Long Road" and "Daylight Robbery". Would be good to hear on a quiet week night.

2.0 out of 5 stars not the quatermass i remember 27 April 2007
By 70s VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Oh no! I recently rebought the original Quatermass album and just love that 70s hammond sound. A great album, recommended. This however is another proposition. Think, who were the stars of the original album? The bass player singer? YES. The Organist? YES. The drummer? hmm well he was OK. Now fast forward a decade or so, Quatermass 2, original bass player? No. Original organist? No. Original drummer? Yes, but only him. The music? 80s MOR, AOR. Whats in a name? Cashing in thats what. If you like 80s guitar driven AOR then give this a spin, but 70s Quatermass it aint

3.0 out of 5 stars Quatermass II - 'Long Road' (Angel Air) 2 Nov 2004
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Guess this is the follow-up to the self-titled Quatermass album that emerged in 1970. Heard that lp went about as quick as it came. 'Long Road' is an apparent reunion of the band, with just one original member, drummer Mick Underwood. Joining up with Underwood is bassist Nick Simper (Deep Purple's original bassist) and two top session players Gary Davis and Bart Foley. 'Long Road' is probably considered to be less progressive than the 1970 lp, but more basic rock & roll. Or perhaps call it low-key progressive if you like. Some of the decently penned tracks I thought were "Good Day To Die", the title cut "Long Road" and "Daylight Robbery". Would be good to play on some of those late night FM classic rock radio shows.

2.0 out of 5 stars A comeback no one expected 17 Oct 2004
By Lord Corkscrew - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Mick Underwood created Quatermass II to cut a follow-up to the unlucky Quatermass experience, which cut only one album in 1970.

But if Quatermass was a great trio of heavy prog rock, Quatermass II is a four-piece group with nothing left to say.

The music is not awful, but it is surely more forgettable than the 1970 album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD 7 Oct 2013
By David E. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Great rock album. Nick Simper adds a touch of "Deep Purple" sound to the album. Hard driving blues, melodic, excellent song writing. Highly recommend anyone who likes early Deep Purple and melodic, blues-oriented rock purchase this CD.
