One-pot Wonders is full of great casseroles and slow-cooked dishes such as Smoky Hotpot of Great Northern Beans; Root Vegetable Rag' with Spiced Couscous; or Beef and Carrot Casserole with Dumplings. Fool-proof recipes include Traditional Roast Turkey; Roast Beef with all the Trimmings; and Rolled Crackly Pork with Sage and Onion Stuffing. Sides and Salads complete any meal. Choose from Winter Vegetable Gratin and Baked Spinach Mornay or try a crisp winter salad, such as Endive, Pear and Gorgonzola Salad. Whether you enjoy a slice of cake in front of the fire or an indulgent dessert, there are plenty of treats to choose from in Bakes and Desserts. Try Sticky Marzipan and Cherry Loaf; Baked Apples with Butterscotch; or Gooseberry and Ginger Wine Crumble. Finally, in Drinks there are plenty of ideas for relaxing at home or entertaining. 5.0 out of 5 stars Cosy, seductive eating....... 30 Dec 2009
By Pompom TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
I first noticed this title by it's title alone and wanted to buy it simply for that. In these days of the credit crunch, I held back. Then, Amazon posted the 'Look Inside' link for the book, and, joy of joys, I came across it in a shop. Just one flick through the book convinced me that it was an utterly worthwhile buy.

The book is designed around it's title. What can be more comforting than the idea of curling up with a delicious bowl of food next to a log fire? As with many other Rylands, Peter & Small books the photography is gorgeous and completely evocative of the theme. The recipes all sound delicious, and seem simple. Those I have tried have been utterly delectable. I can't wait to try more - infact I'm having people over simply to cook from it!

The book is divided into the following chapters:

Soups and Snacks - including Chestnut and puy lentil soup, Slow cooked onion and cider soup, Creamy cauliflower and gruyere soup, Monkfish, fennel and saffron bourride (bouridde is like a bouillabaisse thickened with a garlicky aioli), Oven-roasted spiced nuts, Spiced carrot dip, Baked mushrooms.

Supper Dishes - including Sticky Pork Fillet (with a pecorino crust, mustard mash and balsamic onions), Sausages with celeriac rosti, Beef on Croute with mustard sauce, Mushroom and thyme ragu, Potato and parmesan tart, Mountain eggs.

One-pot Wonder - including Portugese lamb stew with piri piri, Languedoc beef stew, Lamb tagine (two different recipes), Pumpkin and Gorgonzola risotto.

We bought two more books from Amazon as I have given them as gifts to people. We've cooked several recipes from this book, easy to follow, absolutely delish! Highly recommended for winter comfort food, but dinner party level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great autumn/winter cookbook 30 Oct 2009
Like the previous reviewer the title really caught my eye. Plenty of colour photos, although there isn't one for each dish. Nice and clearly set out as well. All the ingredients seem easy to get hold of also. I'm cooking a meal for my parents this Sunday and had a real job deciding what to cook from this book as there was so much choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photo's and superb recipes 18 Aug 2010
I received this book as a birthday surprise from my husband. It has some lovely comfort food recipes and as a vegetarian I can easily substitute the meat recipes with other ingredients. There are also some lovely drinks recipes at the back too ( alcohol and non-alcohol ). Altogether highly recommended !
