Book Description

A woman from the past brings a whole lot of trouble... A brilliant Myron Bolitar novel from the SUNDAY TIMES bestselling author of SIX YEARS.

Myron is summoned to Paris at the behest of an old lover, Terese. She is in unspecified trouble and needs his help. When he gets there, he discovers that her husband has been murdered and she is the main suspect. The interesting thing is that more than one blood-type has been discovered at the scene - and the other blood can only be attributed to her daughter. But she died 10 years before.

As Myron and Terese try to find out exactly what's going on, they uncover more and more questions. Did the daughter really die? Did Terese's husband have a further child with someone else?

But the truth is something no one expected...

    5.0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 Stars -- Reads Faster Than A Speeding Bullet! 30 April 2009
    By Bobbewig TOP 1000 REVIEWER
    Format:Hardcover
Be prepared to put aside almost everything else you have to do when you pick up Coben's latest compulsive page-turner, Long Lost. If you're a fan of Myron Bolitar and his "crew" from the other books in this series, you'll be very happy with this thriller, although you may have to suspend your belief in Bolitar's exploits a little more than usual. If this is your first book in the series, I think you'll still enjoy Long Lost a lot; but perhaps not as much as readers that are already familiar with the characters in the series. In Long Lost Myron receives an out-of-the-blue call from ex-lover, Terese Collins, who he hasn't heard from in ten years, asking him to come to Paris to renew their once torrid relationship. Once he learns the real reason for her invitation, Myron is off to Paris. He and Terese soon find themselves trying to avoid Homeland Security, Interpol and Mossad. Long Lost is an extremely fast, intense and fun read. The only factor that causes me to subtract one-half star is that I found the ending, while very exciting, to be a bit too contrived and implausible. Nonetheless, Long Lost is a very enjoyable book and one I'd highly recommend.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the wait 9 Jun. 2010
    Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As someone who was riveted by all the other Myron Bolitar stories, this was a distinct letdown. Every so often TV takes a success out of its normal setting, usually for a Christmas special. It rarely works.
Instead of the usual close-to-home, surburban, tightly defined plot, Long Lost ends up as a mixture of usual Bolitar, international thriller and a denouement that was almost science-fiction (if you were dismayed to see Close Encounters spliced into the Indiana Jones IV film, you'll feel uneasy about Long Lost).
Maybe the gap between Bolitar books was for a reason.

    5.0 out of 5 stars WOW.....Thank goodness Bolitar's back 6 May 2009
    Format:Hardcover
This book was consumed in a night. I just couldn't help it. The story is so jammed packed with characters, plot developments and turns that you're not quite sure what is going on. I love Coben's style of writing and his latest Myron Bolitar is one of his best. The story has already been summed up and I do not want to give anything away and spoil it, but trust me...this book is beyond brilliant. Fair enough it seems like Myron is just a sucker for punishment and has the worst luck in the world when it comes to women, but you care for him and for Terese and the writing is so powerful that you believe that all these things could happen. For me though the best thing about this book is the emotion shown by Bolitar throughout the novel, there's still the witty comebacks and one liners but Myron is more vulnerable and it comes across really effectively

Terese Collins was very secretive. She wanted Myron to come to Paris where she was staying, but she didn’t want to tell him why. Myron had an affair of convenience with Terese nearly ten years before. Now he’s committed to Ali. But, that’s about to change. Ali decides to end it with Myron. She’s going to go back to her home town. So the option of going to reacquaint himself with Terese is wide open. But, Terese has stumbled upon something extremely dangerous and she pulls Myron into it. A secret she had been holding back from Myron now comes to the surface. She was responsible for an accident ten years earlier that ended her seven year old daughter’s life. Terese had been injured and was in a coma for a couple of weeks after the accident. Before he was killed, her ex-husband led her to question the accident. Could it be possible that her daughter was still alive?

This ninth Myron Bolitar novel is very fast paced and includes many wonderful twists and turns for the reader. I may have mentioned in previous reviews of Harlan Coben books that he is my favorite author. However, I honestly don’t feel that this was one of his better novels. I’m not sure the international aspect worked in a Myron Bolitar novel and Myron seems to have been given super human strength. Also Win’s ramblings of Mee, his personal flight attendant, appeared more like comments you’d expect to hear from high school jocks. I like how all of the characters we’ve come to love are still accounted for. Myron’s parents are aging and he continues to worry about them – an emotion most of us are very familiar with. There is only one novel left in the series, Live Wire. I have to say I’m not looking forward to the end. But at this time, I don’t foresee another Myron Bolitar novel. A new series develops after Live Wire which is that of Myron’s high school nephew, Mickey Bolitar. That series is geared for young adults. I rated Long Lost at 3.5 out of 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars How can Coben... 8 Aug. 2010
    Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
... be always this entertaining? He has got a gift, that is it. In this murder mystery Myron Bolitar resurfaces. A long-lost lover, Terese Collins, calls him unexpectedly and this very call sends Bolitar and his associates into a whirlwind escalation of twists & turns. Terese seems to be in very serious trouble. She is alone in Paris. Will Myron please get there as soon as possible from the USA even though it has been years since he last heard from her? You bet he will. And once he gets there, hell breaks loose. Terese is agitated. She has been contacted by her ex husband Rick with disturbing yet-to-be-revealed information. She does not know how to interpret Rick's phone call. And why in Paris??

Hard to get into details about the plot without revealing essential bits. All I can say is, despite it being quite far-fetched it manages to be believable and it will make you gasp more than once. So read this book if you like the genre, or if you have been a long-time fan of Mr. Coben such as I have. The only criticism that I have about Coben's books is that sometimes I find it hard to believe that the main characters (in this case I am referring to Bolitar) always seem so sure of themselves despite very awkward and dangerous situations. He always seems to have an answer ready, which is, I think, quite unrealistic. But a part from that, just like its predecessors, I found this book impossible to put down. I've skipped a couple of lunches to carry on with the reading. No more than that, as the plot is so intriguing, you shall finish this book in no longer than a couple of days. So no, I do not agree with the negative reviews here, not entirely anyway. I think this books is as entertaining as ever, and I wish every buyer to enjoy the suspense! And now I shall get caught in... "Caught", next in line...
