RICKY NELSON was already a star in America when he cut his first record I m Walking in 1957...but not a record star: he played himself in the real life sitcom The Adventures Of Ozzie and Harriet , featuring his mum Harriet, dad Ozzie, and big brother David. Ricky personally recruited a select backing group including legendary guitarist James Burton and cut a string of rockabilly-oriented classics and million-selling albums that transcended his pin-up status and would elevate him to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Ricky produced all his own hits, and on the strength of his music became a global star in countries that never aired the TV show. Here are all of Ricky Nelson s recordings released prior to 1960, plus a bonus exclusive in-depth never-before-heard interview with Ricky recollecting not only the early years, but his later excursions into folk and country-rock, his songwriting, and the downs as well as the ups of an astonishing career. If you buy this 3 cd set you get exactly what it says on the tin. 61 tracks released from 1957 to 1959 (in release date order not recording date order) plus a third disc of an interview with Ricky Nelson (which you probably won't play more than once).
The great James Burton plays guitar on most of the tracks, as notated in the very good 12 page booklet which accompanies the cd set.
Two versions of the excellent "Believe What You Say" are included - one with a vocal chorus overdub and in my opinion a far better version without.
All Ricky Nelson's best recordings are in this set. His only well-known hits not here are "Travelin' Man" and "Hello Mary Lou", which together made up a double "A" side single from 1961 (which is why it's not included).

How can you not like everything on this CD, I loved it. Although we lost Ricky at so young an age, he is like all the other lost greats.Buddy Holly/Eddie Cochran/Richie Valance/Jim Reeves/Patsy Cline and yes Glen Miller.the list is to long to include them all. Lost but never forgotten

Lonesome Town - The Complete Record Releases 1957-1959 Plus Exclusive Interview, if only for the interview of Ricky this CD is worth buying.
Ricky Nelson, wrote and sang some really good songs, all contained here, to soon was he taken from us.
