After reviewing this book on Amazon it looked just the thing I needed for my road trip. Once received I was slightly disappointed. The look inside feature on Amazon is misleading - it shows colour glossy pictures of places to visit but these are the only pictures in the book.

The information about places to visit are all in the book but takes some reading to find the information. If you just want a quick dip book then I wouldn't suggest this guide book.

When you visit Texas you realise how vast it is. I normally like Lonely Planet Guides but the vastness means that this guide did not give all the information I would like. Some of the detail is a little superficial, there seem to be less restaurant suggestions than normal and some were a little disappointing. Also, although the book was recently reviewed it seems only part of it was updated. Some sections were badly out of date on prices, opening times and on what is available.

Having said this it was useful and I still had an excellent time in Texas thanks, in part, to this book which is still a good steer as to where to visit and what areas are best for night time.

Have a look at other guides to Texas before buying. Perhaps the main problem is that it is a Lonely Planet guide and, apart from the poor maps, they are normally very good, this one let's the stable down a bit.

Does what is says on the cover, although this edition is going out of print for the end of the year, i have high hopes it will keep me right on my travels. Used several of their books before and they tell it as it is.

Bags of information, tips and hints to help plan our road trip round Texas. I wouldn't expect any less from Lonely Planet!
