I bought this book recently to take my girlfriend for a weekend trip to Paris.

Time was of the essence and we wanted to get in as much of the city as we could in the 2 short days.

This guide was well laid out, covers all of the areas of Paris, gives you an informed opinion as well as historic facts and points of interest of the city.

I found that our entire weekend was packed with interesting facts, suggestions and reasons to visit different sites, all thanks to a little guidance from the book.

Want a decent seafood resturant in Little Italy? A cheap cafe near the Sacre Cour? or want to book a Champagne meal at the Moulin Rouge? This guide gave you names, streets, maps opening and closing times, metro maps, where to buy theatre tickets and prices as well as the all essential "Things to avoid", even down to how much we should expect to pay for a taxi from the airport.

The next time I take a leasure trip abroad, I will definately check Lonely Planet has a guide to it first.

Better than having a local showing you round.....and you won't need to buy them a drink either!

This is the worst Lonely Planet book ever. The way in which information is listed is difficult to follow and appears inconsistent. The main map is also difficult to handle as it has to be cut away from the book and then folds out to triple the size you actually need. The other smaller maps within the book also appear to have a system all of their own that I failed to fathom throughout my entire trip. I am an experienced traveller, and have always found other Lonely Planet guides to be user friendly and accurate. I wouldn't normally write a negative review, and especially towards this company, but I was so disappointed by this book I feel compelled to warn other travellers to avoid it.

It is okay... 12 May 2010
Format:Paperback
I should have taken the other reviews into consideration before buying this guide but since I had Lonely Planet China, and it was AWESOME, I thought I would give it a try.

The guide is divided by neighborhoods, which dont tell much if it's your first time in Paris, so I was forced to make a list of all the things I wanted to do in that neighborhood, one by one. Each neighborhood has a "highlights" and its useful if you do the same way as I did.

There is just enough information about the sights and nice restaurant listing, I found few nice restaurants. I dont think much more information should go in a guide. For that you can print wikipedia pages or search for some information on net before leaving.

If only I could go back in time I would have bought another guide or this one used.

Included map is very nice. If you have a Nokia phone I recommend downloading the off-line maps for Paris also.

The book fitted our needs perfectly. The city is handily split into different neighbourhoods and the details on each attraction are very informative. Read more

Superb and thorough
Thorough and complete, although prices for museum entries have increased a bit since publication. Good size to carry around and I liked the detachable map for easy navigation. Read more

Very good, informative. Not good at illustrating price ranges though. Must compare info with somewhere I know well e.g. London

Useful and packed with information
I've been using the guide to plan our vacation, and find the guide useful (as expected). One challenge has been how to plan an itinerary.

VERY DISAPPOINTING
Very difficult to use; very disappointing. Very unexpected; maybe the most frustrating travel book I've ever had to use. Read more

The content of the guide was useful enough - it listed plenty of quirky places to go that were off the beaten track, and this helped to make my visit to Paris a lot more memorable... Read more
