Great book, very informative with some very useful links. Particularly like the itineraries suggested, though they make you realise that you need far more time than planned!

Good, but I would add more general info about visiting Australia. The guide lacks some info for first-time visitors to Australia

Probably the best series available. 29 Aug 2014

These comments apply to all the Lonely Planet books I use. The information contained is fine for initial trip planning but the formula the series uses leads to an incredible amount of repetition of information. Since it is a travel book that you might just want to take with you, and weight is usually an issue when traveling, it seems to me the book could be condensed in half. Many items appear in at least 3 parts of the book. In general these books don't give you much truly off the beaten track info, but they are great for an initial foray into the offerings of a place. They are as good as anything else I've found out there, so I keep buying books from the series and will unless something better comes along. This specific guide seemed fine. Since I didn't have much time in the area, it helped to discover the highlights. These books aren't as useful for places you plan to stay in for months -- but that isn't what most people are after.

Adequate but not the caliber that I used to expect from Lonely Planet 29 Jun 2014
By Ann Murdoch - Published on Amazon.com

As a loyal LP devotee for many many years, I am continually and repeatedly disappointed these days, and this was no exception. The intelligent, interesting background and commentary is missing, and the electronic version is clunky and irritatingly difficult to navigate. Why did it buy this then? Well, there was nothing else that I could find, specific to Melbourne.
