3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly too brief... 19 May 2012
Format:Paperback
I must be honest, I did not buy this book, my friend did. We used it when travelling through France, Spain (inc. Barcelona) and Italy. It is useful, in the sense it gives you the basic phrases such as hello, goodbye, thankyou, numbers & days of the week. It even has a "menu decoded" section, which is very useful. My favourite thing about the book is the fact that each language has exactly the same phrases & layout, making it easy to find your way around when visiting multiple countries.

My main gripe is that there are some words & phrases that I would consider essential when trying to get by in another language, such as "hotel" (which may well be the same spelling in many countries, but pronunciation is a whole other ball game), which do not make an appearance.

I appreciate it is covering a lot of languages & for that very reason it cannot be as complete as a Collins little gem, but I did feel that the phrases I was looking to use most frequently were not in there.
