Review

Lonely Planet guides are, quite simply, like no other --New York Times

Great little book! Fabulous if you want a bargain book that gives you a quick guide to the best tourist attraction, best places to eat or some of the history. Really useful map in the back of the book. --Amazon customer

Excellent value for money.Much better to have this
neat volume while walking around Edinburgh, instead
of the larger one. It 'met my needs' and was v. good
to leave behind for my student grand-daughter's next
four years in this great city.

Took this away for the weekend and came in very handy.
The map in the back in great, and each section has some good suggestions - doesnt include accomodation though.
Found the highlights sections at the back the most helpful, with good top 5's for certain categories - eg top 5 restaurants with views, cafes for brunch, monuments with views etc.

Bought this for a 4 day visit to Edinburgh and was really useful. Small enough to keep in pocket and whip out when needed. Gave info on all the main attractions and things to see and the little map was great.

I read this book before my first trip to Edinburgh. I enjoyed the read particularly the history of Edinburgh (located in the back of the book) and the little fact type boxes. I also bought a locals guide book however when in Edinburgh I used this book the most. I was able to findnout about the places I wanted to visit and to mark them on the maps in the book. Great book which inspired me to buy the Rome version even though I have visited Rome already and have other Rome guides.

Bought this for my daughter who was going to Edinburgh for a weekend. I thought it might be a bot old hat to have a paper map and book in these days of smart phones but my daughter said it was really useful in planning her weekend and that the little pull out map was invaluable. It is a very small size of book (less than half A5)and so fits really easily into a handbag and is light.

I haven't yet travelled to Scotland and haven't had a chance to "check out" just how good or accurate the guide is, so here's my opinion after having only read it. This is a pocket guide, but it seems to include all the necessary information one needs upon first traveling to Edinburgh: all attraction (in my opinion, more than can be seen on a 3-4 day visit), recommended restaurants and pubs, a very detailed list of shopping attractions, excellent area maps in each section and a big map attached at the end. There seems to be little information about hotels (only a few are mentioned), and a map of bus routes would also help (the guide only mentions which routes get to which attractions). On the whole, not expensive at all, includes color photos and plenty of info. - looks very satisfactory.

We are very glad we purchased this Edinburgh Travel Guide as it proved to be very informative. It is a nice compact size which is easy to carry and the 'pull out' city map is an added bonus.
A Good Buy !!!
