5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect 28 Dec 2009
I was really impressed with how many dialects/languages were included in this book. The information included is all essential and the book is compact. However, that doesn't mean that the sections are lacking at all.

I would definitely recommend this as an essential to anyone considering travelling in China.

2.0 out of 5 stars not for me 29 Oct 2011
This book is not set out in the best way, with 7 sections of each dialect and a none too friendly layout. It barely came out of my bag, me and my friend instead relied totally on her cheap phrase book. (sorry can't remember which one it was exactly!)

I bought this for my step-brother, as he is interested in Chinese. As far as I know, he found the book easy to read and use. Overall, a success.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable, but lacking in Mandarin.. 11 May 2013
Verified Purchase
This phrasebook covers the language basics for many different languages in China. It is useful for a traveller to the region; however, the coverage of Mandarin (easily the most widely spoken language in China) is the same for languages that many fewer people speak.
