This is a lovely book to own for anyone who enjoys Tara McPherson's sickly sweet yet disturbing style of art that could be described as comic, cartoon, or even pop surrealist. If I'm honest, I preferred the second volume of her work, but they make a beautiful pair. I felt the second book showed a progression in her style, a darker edge to her themes, whereas this at times veered towards the cutesy, swerving back just in time before it became too saccharine for my tastes. Beautifully produced and an amazing first attempt, it was nice to see some of the band posters she's worked on included at the end (and to find that a lot of them are bands I like!)
