Classic Jorn 20 April 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I don't understand why anyone would give this 2 stars! I have been a Jorn fan for years and lonely are the brave is a fantastic heavy rock album. By todays standards it wipes the floor with the crap being released. If you like heavy chugging riffs and dark overtones mixed with a sprinkling of melodic rock this album does the job. Jorn's vocals never fail to impress, the guy has the vocal power of David Coverdale mixed with Ronnie James himself. Jorn is a saviour of rock like Dio before him. Its just a shame he does not get the credit he deserves.!!

Disappointing! 18 Oct 2008
Format:Audio CD
I first heard of Jorn after hearing him sing on Tobias Sammett's Scarecrow. For those who have not heard this burly Scandinavian sing; imagine David coverdale, but more melodic, greater range and a voice that can send shivers down your spine. Amazing voice, but pity I can't say the same for this CD.

A cover that was created by an 8 year old on PowerPoint. On first listening, I had to check that I wasn't listening to Saxon! Now I quite like some of Saxon's stuff, but I find too many of their songs sound so similar. The same applies here. On first listening, too many times I found myself flicking to the next track. Now in fairness, Jorn sings like a man posessed, but it's the music that lets him down here.
His vocals work so well on 'The Scarecrow' because the quality of music and writing is so incredible. Here it is merely average and it shows!

I'm off to buy another Jorn effort - ARK. Here's hoping this will showcase what Mr Lande is really capable of...

Jorn retains the high standards of his work 4 July 2008
By Nikiforos V. Skoumas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is the 5th studio release from Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande. He is often compared to David Coverdale and Ronnie James Dio due to his range and vocal styles/techniques he consciously incorporates from these rock masters. "Lonely are the Brave" is a fairly good effort which gives Jorn the opportunity to uncover a great deal of his vocal talent.
Jorn's solo works were always supported by fine production but this time things are levitated to the next stage. The sound is clearer than ever with accurate sustain which manages to shine perfectly through a descent stereo system. The more you crank up the volume the more you realize what a grandiose production this is.

Composition wise, this release unfortunately does not stand as Jorn's best solo work; There are indeed what could be called standout tracks, such as the title track and "Night City" (where Jorn performs the most accurate imitation of the Dio style one could hear) but none of these could be compared to hard rock milestones such as "Christine" and AOR classics like "Bridges will Burn" that Jorn offered us in the past.

Buying this album as any other from his back catalogue will not disappoint as we unquestionably get value for money. But if one is to be fair, it must be said that Jorn still has not made that perfect, start to finish, album the fans have been expecting.

"Rock Hard" Greek magazine (issue 33) marks this album with 8/10 commenting: "Jorn has found the way of constantly coming up with very good albums"

Jorn's best solo album to date 26 Nov 2008
By Justin Gaines - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
2008's Lonely are the Brave is album number five from Norwegian melodic rock supervocalist Jorn Lande (ex-Ark, Masterplan, Millenium, and too many other bands to count). It's also arguably his best album to date. It's abundantly clear listening to Jorn sing that he was influenced by David Coverdale and Ronnie James Dio, and with Lonely are the Brave Jorn has written the ultimate tribute to those metal icons.

This is, for lack of a better term, the best Dio album written since Dream Evil. If Ronnie James Dio had written an album in 1985 for David Coverdale to sing, I think it would sound exactly like Lonely are the Brave. Hell, I'm halfway convinced that Dio did write "Night City" and forgot to record it himself. And Jorn belting out "look for the answer" at the end of "War of the World" is so Heaven and Hell it's not funny. Beyond the strong Dio vibe, the album really gets to the heart of Jorn's style and how he sees his role. The title track, in addition to being an absolutely perfect melodic hard rock anthem, is practically a mission statement and is probably the best song Jorn has ever written.

My only complaint with Lonely are the Brave is its relatively short length. It includes just nine songs and clocks in at roughly 45 minutes. On the flip side, there is not a single song on this album that remotely qualifies as filler, and you're definitely left wanting more.

Lonely are the Brave is a must have for Jorn fans, and will blow away just about anyone who still loves the classic melodic rock and metal sound. Fans of Dio and Whitesnake in particular should absolutely love it. There's still a month to go in 2008, but Lonely are the Brave is already sitting at the top of my Top 10 list for the year.
more metal than rock, just the way i like it 16 Mar 2012

if you are like me, a true metal head, then you will truly get a kick out of this album. night city sounds like it was pulled right out of ronnie james dio,s brain. its like someone went back in time to the late eighties or early 90,s and stole it from his little black book of song ideas. all you fans that lean more to the rock side than the metal side will most likely love songs like the title track and war of the world. you people that still mostly listen to old whitesnake and mostly aor type bands.but for the more metal oriented fan, and i mean those of you like me that are addicted to bands like primal fear, running wild, helloween and so on, well those of you will bust a nut when you hear the song titled PROMISES. this is the most fist pumping head banging anthem to come out in a long time. i cant stop playing this song, you can not play this without singing along. a song like this puts me in a good mood if im depressed, it gets me ready for another day at work, and it makes me proud to crank it at public places for all to hear, no cheese factor, just pure amazing quality metal. in fact i challenge you to not like this song. the inner road is a great song with killer guitar riffing as well, this is a diverse album where some songs are so good that the rest , even though good themselve will most likely be skipped often to reach these above mentioned anthems. by the way, coverdale this is not, quit comparing jorn to coverdale. jorn has a voice all his own, the dio influence is the one i hear the most. but anyway, i would put this type style of music in the same list as axel rudi pell, early pink cream 69 or early pretty maids(lethal heros) with some strong dio influences. dont pass this up.
