Having read quite a few of these types of books l was initially dissapointed if only because the writer is always coming out with 'god bless america' and 'liberty and freedom' and 'because i love my country' type comments -and i mean to the point where i nearly had to put the book down... but when the story opens up a bit he lays off that for a while and the book is actually quite a good read -initially he explains what it took for him to first become a seal and then he pretty much goes straight in to the action. Funnily enough the book finishes as it started with comments like ' because i am a united states navy seal' i mean c'mon i think we got that by the end of the book and hilariously it ends with the statement ' god help the enemy and god bless texas!!!! I would say however that he seems to be a nice guy who went through a bad time in those mountains so if you can put up with the 'over american - god bless us type comments - you may actually enjoy the book!

The annoying things about this book are:

- the USA all the way bravado
- the simplistic political analysis (we would have kicked butt in a week if it wasn't for the liberals)
- the enemy are complete cardboard cutouts who get mowed down by SEALS superior firepower/training (seems a bit unrealistic to me, but what do i know?)

Reading the book is a bit like watching an unrealistic action war movie... you know it's rubbish but u have to get to the end anyway. I guess this will appeal to a lot of gung-ho types. But if you really want to read a good book on war then read Matterhorn.

god bless america 17 Aug 2011
Format:Paperback
God is American. Jesus is from Texas. The holy ghost is a member of special forces...probably.
Muslims, liberals and the media are bad.
Navy Seals are the bravest, cleverest and toughest men in the whole wide world. The author is a navy seal. You are not a navy seal and so you are a pussy.
These facts are re-iterated on virtually every page of this tiresome, flag waving piece of gung ho right wing tat.
Yet despite these facts the authors main claim to fame is he accidentally avoided getting killed whilst getting his ass kicked up and down an Afghan mountain and the only reason he survived at all to write this story is because the muslims he so obviously dislikes actually saved his life.
This book actually contains a half decent story and I'm fully prepared to accept that once the gun battle finally kicks off there is a real sense of excitement and danger. However wading through endless references to god and america and god bless america and good 'ol texan homeboys and just how mind bogglingly tough the navy seals are soon left me divorced from the characters.
