Book Description

1 Oct 2002
In 180 cameos, "London's Theatres" captures over 50 of the best-known theatres in Central London as they are at the beginning of the 21st century. From the Savoy Theatre's spectacularly restored Art Deco auditorium to the Donmar Warehouse's whimsical conversion of a beer and bananas warehouse, London's rich cultural heritage is revealed. The specially commissioned photographs are accompanied by a history of each theatre's evolving architectural style and changing role through the centuries. The book combines little-known facts and anecdotes with a sumptuous photographic record of the theatre in London.

5.0 out of 5 stars A theatre lovers dream 24 Sep 2002
Format:Hardcover
This book is a definate keep sake for all theatre lovers. It is a wonderful collection of photographs and provides a detailed background to all of the theatres in London.

Filled with facts such as the history of each theatre and of its development. The photographs are colourful and are printed of the most excellent quality. The majority of photographs concentrate on the beautiful architecture that can be found in the theatres and its decorative design.

A piece of theatrical memorabilia of your very own to look at over and over again to indulge yourself of Britain's west end culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep knowledge and fascinating cameos 23 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Mike Kilburn's deep knowledge of the history and architecture of the London theatre is clearly reflected in his writing. The stunning photographs also doubtless owe much to his very skillful direction in making the best of the architectural features of each theatre, even down to fascinating cameos of design detailing and idiosyncracies.
