A perfect guide to the Thames and its pubs, whether you know London or not, whether you live here or are just visiting, and interested in the pubs, the river or just rambling along its bank --The London Drinker, 1 June 2011

Product Description

Applying the winning formula of "London's Best Pubs" to focus on riverside watering holes, this book shows the best that the capital has to offer along the Thames and the Grand Union Canal. Extending from Walton-on-Thames to Thamesmead, the book features 100 pubs, giving a variety of venues for the perfect afternoon by the river. Divided by area and accompanied by photography showcasing both exteriors and interiors, the pubs described here will appeal to a broad range of visitors, both tourists and London residents alike. Every entry features an overview of the cask ales on offer, together with informative historical and architectural snapshots and details on the character of each pub. This title is suitable for: visitors to London who are looking for great riverside locations; and London residents who are looking for a break from their usual pub choices.

[[ASIN:1847737102 London's Riverside Pubs: A Guide to the Best of London's Riverside Watering Holes 'London's Riverside pubs' is not just a useful aid for those who enjoy a casual stroll alongside the Thames, but an informative historical dictionary of the Thames itself and indeed London from West to East.
Once I'd purchased a copy, I decided to buy 3 more at Amazon's excellent price, and gave 2 away to local Thameside pub enthusiasts and one to an Australian cousin who I know treasures it as a great souvenir of London, and it's social life.

drinking by the river 15 Feb 2011
By K. Platt TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This has fantastic photos of the exteriors and interiors of 100 pubs in London. All the pubs are situated on the Thames, the Lea or the canals. Most of these riverside pubs do a bustling trade and its elbow to elbow and you have to be a magician not to spill your drink. I used to go to a pub in Lea where there was a saxophonist and clarinet player and have often sipped a glass on the Thames - there is something about it that makes the beer taste better especially if it is a pint of Youngs or Fullers. The descriptions are good. There is a useful list of where to go if you like real ale, live music and so on. The book is divided into areas, so you need never be without refreshment and a good view. Websites are only given at the back of the book. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website.

Great book 7 May 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book because I had previously bought 'London's Best Pubs' by the same writer and really loved it. This one is another great guide to London pubs and I've used it quite a bit. My only criticism is that a few of the pubs included in this book are chain bars e.g. there is an All Bar One, a Slug & Lettuce and a Pitcher & Piano. I prefer places that are a bit more original, with a bit of history. But as a guide to places to sit by the river and enjoy a drink, it's great. What can be better than having a drink by the Thames on a sunny day?
