About the Author
JOHN WITHINGTON is the author of a nmber of books including A Disastrous History of Britain and A Disastrous History of the World. A former television producer, he wrote and directed more than 40 documentaries including Royal London and Secret City He writes regularly for newspapers and magazines, and blogs daily on the history of disasters at http://disasterhistorian.blogspot.com. John lives and works in London.

Impeccably researched and gripping from start to finish,

From the first page I couldn't put it down until I'd finished it. John Withington is a master story teller and really knows how to breathe life and humanity into his exceptionally well researched subject. This is a must for anyone interested in the history of London. Far from being depressing, it shows how resilient Londoners are when faced with catastrophe. London's Disasters is also an excellent reference book that should be on university reading list and library book shelves. On the strength of this book, I have just bought Withington's history of World Disasters and look forward to expanding my global knowledge on a fascinating subject.

Disasters?,

I was a little disappointed with this book. Many of the events described were extremely sketchy and of dubious accuracy. Some were described well but I think the author should have done a little more checking especially when there are available eyewitness reports.
