Part of the new "Shire History" range, and quite a departure being a full-sized publication rather than the small format concise guides for which Shire is well known.
This beautifully produced volume features all 33 bridges in what is now Greater London, arranged by geographical location, starting with Hampton Court bridge upstream and ending with Tower Bridge downstream. Every bridge, no matter how mundane, gets at least a couple of pages and excellent photographs. Naturally the likes of London Bridge and Tower Bridge get considerably more than this. It also includes beautiful reproductions of original drawings, engravings and artworks by the likes of Whistler, Canaletto and Monet.
It's written in the classic no-nonsense Shire style, launching straight into the subject, with each bridge forming a stand-alone chapter, making it easy to dip in and out of. It would also form an excellent reference work for anyone interested in London's history.
