Book Description

31 Oct 2002
This volume seeks to capture the spirit of the varied, bustling and exciting city of London. Photographer Anthony Epes has documented the many facets of London during the sleepy early hours before the chaos of the working day. His artistic images are accompanied by a social perspective on the city which is provided by the founder of "The Big Issue", John Bird. Writers and personalities who hold London dear to their hearts, from Ian McEwan to Samuel Johnson, Shakespeare to Suggs, have provided their musings on the city they love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Photographs! 20 Nov 2002
Format:Hardcover
This is a beautiful book. Anthony Epes' photographs dominate it. They provide a unique and personal insight into the capital at dawn. The accompanying text is light and witty. It adds a perspective to the illustrations that takes you deeper into the pictures. I particularily liked Alison Dunne's poem 'I Stand Alone'. This will make a wonderful gift for anyone who loves London.

4.0 out of 5 stars London never looked so good 17 Feb 2003
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I got this from my parents over Christmas and I must say I was impressed by the photographs i saw.

Being a student, I never usually get up and out till around 11 O'clock in the morning and my views of London are usually after the sun sets when I'm out at the pubs and clubs. All I can say is that its amazing, London never looked so good and maybe one day I'll get up early to witness it first hand!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad photography! 29 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
The photographs are mediocre at best in this book. You would have thought that to publish a book of photographs, the photographer would have at least used shift-and-tilt lenses for architectural photography! Many photographs suffer from converging verticals, a common affliction of amateurs and tourist snapshooters. Far better books have been produced on London, give this a miss!
