Product Description

Review

Bryant's images are formally composed, the human form rarely straying into the frame. Yet, with its juxtapositions of old and new, stately and informal, the vivid and cumulative portrait that it provides is still of a living, perpetually evolving city. --The Independent on Sunday

'Love London? Then you'll love this fantastic hardback book by renowned architectural photographer Richard Bryant ... packed full with panoramic views of our city from west to east.' --Matchbox Magazine, October 2008 --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

Product Description

Richard Bryant s London is a fitting love letter to a city with an unparalleled history and an inimitable and tangible soul. Following the path of the river, the reader travels across London, from the bucolic West to the postmodern East from the beautiful villas and gardens of Notting Hill through Bedford Square and Georgian London to Roman ruins, the historic monuments of Greenwich, and the new city rising in the docklands. Richard Bryant s spectacular photographs capture every aspect of London, from the distinctive beauty of the Royal parks to the formal splendor of Whitehall, and from the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament to charming Fenchurch and streetscapes unchanged for centuries. In the tradition of New York New York, Los Angeles, and Atlantic, this deluxe volume showcases breathtaking panoramic photographs including ten stunning gatefolds that open to present six feet of cityscape. The edition will be limited to 5,000 numbered copies, each including a signed print. With an introduction by Peter Ackroyd, the most distinctive and authoritative biographer of the city to date, London is a unique and definitive tribute to one of the most amazing cities in the world.

Simply stunning 14 Mar 2009
By W. Gant
Format:Hardcover
This huge coffee table book is one that will have you looking through the pages again and again. And the fact that the photography tends to focus only on the architecture and places rather than people means that this book has a timeless quality to it.

I appreciate how there are no words or descriptions getting in the way of the beautiful photos - it leaves you speculating over what you are looking at as you turn the pages. And fortunately at the end, every photo is described and there is even a useful map that points to where the photos were taken.

I believe there are only 5000 of this grand book in print, so it is sure to become a collector's item. This signed, limited edition also comes with a print which is worthy of framing.

The photos are so vivid and realistic, you could be in them. Particularly impressive is the pull-out of a tube station platform.
