Book Description

30 Sep 2011
The centuries-old art of tattooing has become one of the modern world's most exciting modes of self-expression. Fascinated by the ways body art reflects an individual's personality, MacNaughton set out to find people whose ornate tattoos tell a story. The result is a wonderfully dynamic collection of portraits that uniquely celebrates the art of tattooing. Each individual is introduced through a full-body, full-page photograph, showcasing the fashion and style which complement the body art. MacNaughton presents gorgeously detailed images of the tattoos themselves, accompanied by personal reflections on the subjects' choice of tattoos, the stories behind them, and the tattoo artists they admire most. The result is a beautiful, sensitive, and exciting exploration of the world of body art, from one of the most successful photographers of urban life.

Product Description

Review

These electrifying portraits by acclaimed photographer Alex MacNaughton prove in the most eloquent way that tattoos are more than skin deep. Fascinated by the ways body art reflects an individual's personality, for this new book MacNaughton set out to find people whose ornate tattoos tell a story. --Planet Notion October 2011

A beautiful photography book where the subjects reflect on their tattoos and tattoo artists. Indeed, it is the props to the artists -- where the tattoos featured are specifically credited to each tattooist-- that makes London Tattoos more than just pretty pictures and personal musings. You may actually fall in love with a tattooist's work based on what you find in these pages. To read more check out: http://www.needlesandsins.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt-search1.cgi?search=london+tattoos --Needles and Sin, 12/12/11

Clear, beautifully designed, and to the point, 'London Tattoos' presents a wide-ranging group of individuals in their everyday dress, then shows with great clarity their tattoos and some words from the individuals themselves on what tattooing means to them. --Tales of the Ink Jan 2012

I've been looking at tattoo books for years, but none of them have ever really stood out. They've been filled with photo-shopped images, and never enough that reveals anything about the actual person. That was until I discovered London Tattoos by Alex MacNaughton. Not only is it a beautifully put together book (Prestel has a history of being one of the best Art publishers, along with very high standards of design) but it is filled with a superior array of people to anything I've ever seen before. An ideal coffee table book to dip in and out of for inspiration, Alex has created something that deserves endless recognition within the tattooing community.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for people who tattoo/ like tattoos 18 Sep 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
For the average reader and someone who doesnt really have a clue about tattoos this would be a good buy. I bought this as a reference book for my Girlfriends birthday.
The photos are great quality but most of the tattoos featured arnt that great quality or finished. You'd do better to buy a magazine from the shops.
