After browsing Amazon for Olympics memorabilia I was quite appalled at reading the two "reviews" on this particular toy. Not sure what the authors' point was, however, it inspired me to write about the Wenlock toy itself.
Queen's Guard Wenlock is well made and cuddly. The proportions of uniform and hat work well with the rest of the toy and the detailing on the uniform suits it. I realize the London 2012 mascots are not exactly to everyone's taste; however, the Queen's Guard version is improving it in a cheeky kind of way. Even the London-cab-inspired yellow "W" area looks much better on the hat than on the regular Wenlock design.
So if would like to have Wenlock at home to remind you and your kids of the games but don't quite like the normal, grey version this one is definitely worth a go. I have to smile everytime I look at mine.
Just be aware that it is quite large (25 cm tall), so not something that would easily hide on your couch. ;-)

I was very excited to take delivery of Private Wenlock, but alas it was a short lived happiness that was tinged with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and a poorly equipped toy. You see Pte Wenlock was rotated back from The Helmand and straight into my front room, where my young son eagerly opened up his box. At this point Pte Wenlock screamed 'ENEMY CONTACT!' burst into tears and asked if I had any jobs going as he'd been laid off. Each time my boy goes to play with his gift Pte Wenlock takes a deep chug from a bottle of what he calls 'Afghan Hooch' before telling my child tales of firefights and slack G4S throbbers as he he stares into the distance. All in all an awful buy really.

... although Private Wenlock looks resplendent in his dress uniform, come the actual event he will be in fatigues looking tired and fed up because he's covering security duties as G4S didn't turn up.
