Choice Collection 4 Dec 2008
Format:Audio CD
Gentle, melodic calypso from the fledgling black communities of post-war Britain. Great musicianship, interesting songs detailing the struggles and small triumphs of settling in a foreign culture. A different perspective from the American experience, but just as powerful and rewarding as both historical education and enjoyable listening experience. Beautifully annotated and packaged, similar to the others in the series. Highly recommended.

Beautiful, mellow music 12 Dec 2007
By Curmudgeon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
A glorious compilation, with music both faithful to its origins and appealing to the Anglophone ear. So much of this is simple folk music relocated to other, exotic climes, and it sounds both familiar and reassuring. Amazing how gentle and delightful this sounds, especially given its context. Recommended.
