Review

"I have owned this book for precisely two weeks and my copy is already coffee-stained and dog-eared. The simple reason for this is that it has become a constant reference point and companion for me." --Telegraph magazine, October 2009 (review of first edition)

"Consider getting hold of a copy to be our first step on the path to enlightenment." --Esquire.co.uk, September 21st 2009 (review of first edition)

"Max Fraser's guide is catholic in its tastes, well written, properly designed in itself, undoubtedly a labour of love... a true ensemble effort with a strong sense of purpose." --Design Week, September 3rd 2009 (review of first edition)

"With area-by-area tours of the best shops, museums, hotels and bars it's a must-have."
--Elle Decoration, November 2009 (review of first edition)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great London Design Guide! 6 Dec 2011
Format:Paperback
The London Design Guide shows you where to go to get the best design in town. The books covers furniture, lighting, glass, textiles, tableware, contemporary prints, art and objets. The focus is on contemporary design, but it also includes where to find vintage originals. From design shops and galleries, to museums and bookshops, this guide reviews the best of the best of London's design scene.

The book is divided into chapters on each design-heavy neighborhood in London, and has maps, photos, and restaurant listings for each district. There are walking routes of the best shops in each area prepared by a design savvy local. The book has everything you need to know to explore the city's creative scene. The design hot spots include Chelsea, Notting Hill, Clerkenwell and Shorditch, but there are listings for places across the whole of the capital.

The guide has been meticulously researched and written by the design commentator Max Fraser, and there are 10 specially commissioned essays by leading design professionals discussing aspects of the design industry, from production and retail, to collecting and salvage. The book is a terrific resource for anyone interested in design in London. My only criticism of it, is that it is printed in such a tiny font, that I found it difficult to read.
The London Design Guide is a snapshot of the design scene today, a celebration of creativity and a practical tool for Londoners and tourists alike.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful pocket-size guide to London 11 Sep 2012
Format:Paperback
A wonderful, pocket-size guide that is small enough to take around with you as you explore London. This compact, colourful book is organised by London's design neighbourhoods (primarily central and east) and includes highlighted maps with detailed descriptions of design shops and studios worth visiting.
I've particularly enjoyed the recommended walks at the start of each chapter, written by local designers including Tom Dixon, Lina Kanafani, Bradley Quinn, etc. - I've discovered new areas even in my own neighbourhood from these adventure walks! They're a great way to spend a weekend day exploring this incredible city by foot. Plus, the restaurant recommendations under "Eat & Drink" at the end of each chapter are dependable and worth trying.

Great find!
