Well, John Boynton has done it again, another marvelous book exploring the history and future of another railway in the West Midlands. The subject of this book being part of the former Great Western Mainline route from Birmingham Snow Hill to Wolverhampton which is now mostly the route of the Metro Tram system, The book explores the history of this route along with excellent photos as you would expect from Mr Boynton, a clear diagram explains the line and near to the end of the book is an excellent map of the Hockley Goods depo--not often known how expansive it was. this aspect of the mainline is not always explored in publications and this book does make up for that and it would make an excellent companion volume to John's upcoming publication of the Snow Hill--Leamington Spa section of the Old GW mainline.
The book is Paperback, 112 pages, lots of clear photographs--with a middle section of color plates along with the usual captions. the first half of the book is of the history of the route--stations, Locomotives, etc. The second half explores the decline, abandonment and then the rebuilding of the line--of course 'Kings' and 'Castles' wont be thundering along with the London expresses anymore but its very gratifying the route has a new renaissance and this volume shows that admirably.
Highly recommended!!
