cannot grumble 21 July 2011
By G. V. Best VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
i have all of the ace london american releases but these out of copyright discs are worth having for under a fiver.
they might not be perfect compilations there are errors but at least they are not live recordings and you cannot grumble because of the price.
great if you have a cd jukebox relive those coffe bar days with something stronger in your glass.

Contrary to a comment on the previous collection, 1960, these do not leave the Ace collections 'cold'! They are cheap & they have the popular singles that Ace leave out because they appear on so many other collections. That is why they are a good buy, they are double CDs & collect a lot of the London releases for each year together in one place.
However, also as pointed out in one of the 1960 reviews, there are errors. On this one I noticed immediately that the recording of Dance with me, whilst it is by the Drifters, is not the original, hit, version.
It is a re-recording from a later period & possibly therefore breaks the 50 year copyright legislation?
Things like this lead you to the conclusion that the collections are shabby at the very least but they are still very collectable for the overall content. It is just a crying shame, particularly in the case of this record which is a classic, that they can't be more careful when sourcing the original recordings!
The Ace collections are more professional & still collectable because there are relatively few overlaps between the two.

Just like its big brother 59 makes a great impact on the music that changed the world. The champs, ricky nelson and jack scott to name 3 of the best on this I love what I hear and I want more of these great compilations.

Serious Value!
This is great value for the hits of London American released in 1959 and much cheaper than the Ace versions (in fact a third of the price for nearly twice as many recordings). Read more
