Product Description

London 2012: The Official Video Game Of The Olympic Games will allow gamers to create their own moments of sporting history and fame by experiencing the thrill and adrenaline rush of the events and disciplines that will be a part of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Over 30 Olympic events have been authentically recreated in their official Olympic arenas against the capital's iconic skyline, with a host of new disciplines making their debut in London 2012. Keirin (Cycling) at the Velodrome, 10m Synchronised Platform (Diving) at the Aquatics Centre and Trampoline at North Greenwich Arena are just some of the new sports that will bring the atmosphere of the Olympic venues to life. Take yourself from the spectator seat, to the race track, swimming pool, gymnastics arena and more and feel the adrenaline of the athletes whilst you compete for that coveted gold medal for your country.

For the first time in an officially licensed Olympic video game, London 2012 will support motion control in a number of different events, bringing you even closer to the Olympic Games. Budding sports heroes will have an even more realistic way of competing in a number of events that are compatible with PlayStation Move and Kinect including 110m Hurdles, Beach Volleyball (Kinect only) and 25m Rapid Fire Pistol (Move only). London 2012 also contains a number of game modes including single player Olympic Games mode, online and offline multiplayer and party play.

In another first for this iteration of the video game, London 2012 will take the world's biggest sporting event online in the form of global leaderboards. The leaderboards will track personal medals gained whilst playing online, with each personal medal won added to that nation's medal table. Every medal won will help to improve a nation's standing in the leaderboards, creating even more moments of sporting glory and fame across the globe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable yet flawed 29 Jun 2012
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Standard Edition
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
First of all, the graphical quality and attention to detail expressed here is very high throughout. Each venue is replicated in exquisite detail, along with tenderly created athletes and supporters. So far, so good.

The problem with this game is it is a direct port of the Xbox 360 version, to the extent that the keyboard controls are tied to resemble an Xbox controller. For some events this is easily overcome - however, when trying to complete diving events for example it becomes rather tricky when a X on screen means a A, an A a S, Y a W and B a D (all with differing functions within a dive). There is no ability to switch things around, which makes it an unnecessarily steep learning curve when a simple tool to map different functions to buttons would have solved the problem easily (or even the standard use of WASD as those letters). The mouse functionality changes between events too, sometimes what you see on the monitor is correct, other times apparently correct moves do absolutely nothing for the athlete.

The other niggle I have with this game is the very repetitive commentary tracks, have only played some events through twice and I'm already hearing identical comments despite my athlete giving completely different performances. Once in the 200m event, my athlete started late by a couple of seconds - yet "perfect start" was heard on the replay!

It could have been very good, but it needs a decent patch to make it so for the PC. If I was on a console, I could have coped with a minor problem of dull commentary with no problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't think it is bad actually 7 Aug 2012
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Standard Edition
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
A lot of people complain that this requires a steam account. Personally, I don't have an issue with using steam. It is actually easier for me as it means I don't have to hunt around for the DVD every time I want to play the game.

I bought the 2008 Olympic game and invested in an xbox 360 controller for the PC back then. I have to say that with the xbox controller this really is a great game. The controls are simple to understand and every event has a walkthrough tutorial that you can see before the event proper. There is a good range of events available (though it's a shame that hammer throwing isn't in there) and what you get for your money is a series of mini games that are good fun and entertaining.

I don't understand these people who moan about needing steam and a gamepad. If you don't like steam and don't want a gamepad, don't buy the game. Surely anyone with a modicum of common sense would do some research into a game before buying it?

I think this is a great game so I am giving it five stars. So ner.
