Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Logitech's diNovo Media Desktop 2.0 is a dramatically designed Bluetooth keyboard and MediaPad, rechargeable optical mouse, and Bluetooth wireless hub combination that transforms the user's work space. The visually striking diNovo keyboard gives first class comfort, while the separate MediaPad lets users remotely command today's PC digital media interface to enjoy favorite pictures and musical selections. The MediaPad also displays email or instant message notifications, media selection playback status, and provides smart calculator functionality. The ensemble includes Logitech's high-precision MX-900 rechargeable optical mouse. The diNovo also turns the PC into Bluetooth control center, letting users synchronize data between their Bluetooth PDAs, cell phones, and other devices, and their PCs.

I have had this combo for a while now since it was first released and it's starting to get to me. At first I loved it and was not bothered about the extra cost as it just oozes style! If you like laptop style keyboards (which i do) then you'll love the flat design. But....

The Bluetooth for example is not reliable. On first boot you have to wait 10secs for you first keystroke or mouse movement to register, the software is the usual clunky Logitech stuff that took a year to update before iTunes was supported on the mediapad (and now I have to wait 10-20 seconds everytime I close itunes due to this change!). The keyboard loses it's pairing with the Bluetooth hub every couple of days and the mediapad eats batteries. A nice thing about the media pad being you can control your music from other rooms. Just don't go too far, like two rooms away or it loses connection! The function keys have a second layer of shortcuts but the toggle button for these is not in a good place for gamers, I still toggle it by mistake and then wonder why my F-keys are not working resulting at times in death!

As much as I've spent on it and love the look I'm seriously considering a cheaper (non-bluetooth) replacement.

I love this 21 Dec 2005
I love this keyboard and have had no problems with it. The batteries supplied lasted much longer and for quite some time compared to the ones I have used since. Other than that I had no trouble installing the product. One thing that could have been done though is to have the option of attaching the number pad to the keyboard as I use this on my lap there is no where to put the numer pad, which I need to use.

I want to say I can't tell you how pleased I am with this product. But I won't, because I'm going to...
You have to remember that this combination is aimed at laptop users, and for that, it is perfect. If I'm on a short trip, I take the mouse and the USB adaptor, and I don't have cable hassles. They come with a neat little zip-up holder that contains the mouse and the adaptor. If I'm doing a lot of number work I could take the number pad too. Back in my office, the laptop docks in its station, I switch to a desktop screen and the diNovo combination, keeping my desk cable free. The keyboard is slim and light, so no real luggage issue, while the separate number keypad means use it LEFT-HANDED (bonza!). It works perfectly with Windows Media and the batteries (which are supplied) last ages if you take the trouble to switch off when you're not using it. All the controls I expected to be pointless (homepage, volume, email, search and media) all worked perfectly with Windows XP, MS Media player and MS Outlook. And it worked out of the box. No installation, configuration, blah blah blah. I am very pleased with this product. See, I CAN tell you!

Update: I originally wrote this review in Dec 2005. It is now Jan 2009 and I stand by this review. I still use this combination daily, still cart the mouse around in it's zip-up pouch.
