Essentially all the other reviews for this are true... it is a stirling attempt by logitech to create an air mouse. Its easy to setup, install and with some fiddling on the settings the mouse sensitivity can be made to work nicely.

Where it fails:

The third mouse button which simulates a mouse wheel doesn't feel quite right and is difficult to control no matter how much you play with the settings.

In the air the mouse pointer will often move to the right of its own accord. I don't know why this happens, but other people I know have had the same problem. Its easily rectified just by freezing the cursor position, or going back to surface and leaving it for awhile before moving back to air control... just annoying.

In the air it is no where near as accurate as the Wii controller for those of us who have had the pleasure to use the Wii Opera browser.

But as I said - still a very good first attempt - I have a second large television with a PC attached but I'll be waiting for the next gen of this before buying again.

Having just set up a media centre PC in my living room, I was excited by the prospect of this mouse. It didn't live up to expectations, and has been returned for a refund.

The concept is great, but like another reviewer here, I experienced some major reliability problems. Personally, I think it's to do with the range, which doesn't appear to be anywhere near what's advertised.

The PC is in the corner of a fairly large living room and if you're sitting cross legged on the floor in front of it, the Air Mouse cursor moves around the screen reasonably well, but move back to the sofa (around 3 meters away) and the cursor begins to stick, jump around or disappear altogether. It's almost impossible to control the cursor properly from the sofa (the advertised operating range is 30 feet (4.57 meters)).

There were also several issues with the gesture volume control. Again, this is a good concept, but in practice it was too frustrating to use. Firstly, the SetPoint software stopped it from working because it fails to recognise the default sound device (see the Logitech forums). The simple workaround for this is to disable all the other sound devices bar the default one, which is fine for most people, but isn't really satisfactory for such an expensive mouse. Even when it was up and running, however, it was still too erratic to use. The idea is that you hold the volume key down while moving your hand left or right to turn the volume up or down. On some occasions the volume would move from max to min in one small flick of the wrist, on others it would only move in tiny fractions even with great big swings of the arm, which makes changing the volume look like you're losing a tough game of Wii tennis.

It's not unusable, but for the price, it's nowhere near good enough.

Anyway, in researching alternatives (the gyration mouse seems to solve the range issues, but is even more expensive), I found an iphone app that controls the cursor absolutely flawlessly and provides tonnes of added functionality that practically removes the need for a keyboard and mouse altogether. And because it connects to the WiFi network, there are no range issues.

I bought this mouse to be used in a living room environment with a Windows 7 64bit HTPC and 42inch plasma screen. Most other reviews seem to be favourable to this product but I found it annoying and unacceptable for my use. There were two main problems, the first is that the pointer would often completely disappear on the screen. I am not describing behavior when the focus has moved to the edge or off screen, rather that it becomes truly invisible and you only know where it is by the interaction as it passes over buttons etc. Rebooting was a temporary fix for this until it occurred again the next time. Researching this on the internet I find that this has been a known problem for a long time associated with the Logitech software and affects many users. The second is that control in the in-air mode is just not accurate enough for positioning when used with a high resolution screen. If you point and are close to the region that you want to be you might make a small gentle movement that you would think would move you to where you want to be, only to find that the movement is too subtle and the pointer doesn't move. To overcome this a more vigorous movement is required but this results in an overshoot. I am really describing a type of dead band in the performance here, this was incredibly annoying and something that I really hadn't expected. This product is not for me.

great
This mouse works great and looks very good on my desk. I especially like the gyroscopes that allow for the use "in thin air".
