Product Description

Logitech Wireless Mouse M515

Designed for better browsing on your sofa, bed or carpet

Here's the wireless track-on-fabric mouse that lets you work and play where you feel most comfortable. Surf, tweet and blog around your house with smooth tracking on your couch, bed or carpet and at your desk.

Features

Ready when you are

Your Wireless Mouse M515 is active only when you’re gripping it. So your cursor only moves when you want it to. And it stays asleep when you’re not using it, conserving battery power.

Wireless Mouse M515
Effortless Hyper-Fast Scrolling

One spin is all it takes. Coast smoothly through the longest blogs, Twitter updates and Facebook feeds. Switch to click-to-click mode to flick through photo albums, e-mails or friends lists. Once you’ve tried it, you’ll never want to go back to an ordinary wheel.

Browse backwards and forwards by just tilting the wheel left or right.*

Easy-gliding design

The rounded, easy-gliding base makes mousing around on sofas, blankets, clothing, carpets—and desks—easy and accurate.

The bottom is sealed, so fabric fuzz won’t collect in the sensor opening—giving you cursor control no matter what surface you’re using your mouse on.**

2-year battery life

The long battery life virtually eliminates the hassle of changing batteries. The On/Off button saves power, while an indicator light eliminates surprises.***

Wireless Mouse M515
Logitech Unifying receiver

The tiny wireless receiver can stay in your laptop (or netbook), so there’s no need to unplug it when you move around.

It also connects up to 6 Unifying-compatible devices. You can add a keyboard, switch between mice, mix and match to fit your lifestyle. All without having to change nano receivers or sacrifice another USB port.

With Logitech Advanced 2.4 GHz wireless, you get the reliability of a cord with cordless convenience and freedom—fast data transmission and virtually no delays or dropouts.

* Tilt left and right not supported on Mac computers.

** Works on virtually any surface, except glass, mirrors or glossy surfaces.

*** Battery life may vary based on user and computing conditions.

Almost great 4 Jan 2012

As a mouse, it generally works well. Nice and straightforward, easy to set up etc. My own real issue is that it detects your hand (power management) and unless you fully grip it, it doesn't always recognise you're trying to use it so nothing happens. It's also quite small so those with big hands might struggle but for me it was no problem. I picked it up in one of Amazon's pre Xmas sales, I would probably have been less impressed if I'd paid the full price which I'd say is too high for this product.

I'm not convinced. 16 Feb 2012

I'm liking this mouse less and less as I use it.

"additional":

it is FAR too heavy when using 2 batteries. you can use one battery, which makes it acceptable, but this may cause fleeting signal dropouts.

the logitech setpoint software. is awful, considering how little it does. i mean, when you re assign buttons, it would be nice for the list of buttons to keep telling you what your changing, but "middle button" becomes "4th assignment" or something.

the setpoint software also crashes.

considering what an incredibly basic piece of equipment this is and how much it costs (£20 is a lot of money for a small lump of plastic), the customer should expect more than it delivers.

original-

It has some interesting 'features' that are meant to enable it to handle large webpages quickly, but in practice, they dont work as a jack of all trades, which is what a mouse (even just a web browser mouse) must be.

What would have been good, is a single wheel mode, with just a very slight resistance, rather than total freewheel.

The freewheel mode is good for long pages, but the wheel floats with no resistance so links can be hard to get stationary. Freewheel can be changed to stepped (press wheel), but this requires different settings in the setpoint software. Its completely impractical to change the setpoint software settings every couple of minutes for a different page.

What works for facebook, might not work for the BBC website.

Rather than different modes, it would be best to just have one mode, which does everything 95%, rather than freewheel/stepped/smooth scroll/line scroll, which does each thing 99%, but has to be re configured every couple of minutes.

EG - facebook, to view content freewheel with smooth scrolling is good. but this means links are hard to stabilise.
also when the wheel is floating, the page can move up and down a small amount. this might not matter since facebook is quick changing content. smooth scrolling may be nice on facebook.

BBC website, to click links, you want stepped wheel, without smooth scrolling, and you want solid stationary links. smooth scrolling is not needed on the bbc website, the information is not changing rapidly, but you dont want scrolly fiddle between pages. you just want quick, sharp, solid, page changes.

ideally, 'almost-free'wheel' would be good, so that you can whizz thro the document using smooth scrolling, but that once you touch the wheel, the wheel doesnt spin with momentum and the page doesnt continue adjusting itself over a few pixels.

It's also quite heavy. shape-wise it's good to fit in the hand.

This mouse has some serious design flaws.
It's described as a couch-surfing AND desk-surfing mouse. I haven't tested couch-surfing, but desk-surfing sucks.
At first I thought it was malfunctioning, then I checked the Logitech website and I found out that most issues are there by design.
I wish I had known this BEFORE I bought this mouse.
- First, this mouse includes a couple sensors which are supposed to stop the sensor when your hand is not on the mouse.
Guess what, I'm not holding the mouse as it's supposed to be held, so the mouse thinks my hand is not on it when it actually is, and blocks the sensor. How smart!!
To be fair, I'm left handed, but hey, so is 30% of the population, so think about that... Was it too difficult to include a "disable sensor" option??? Seriously...
- Second, this mouse is supposed to work on fabric. Glossy surfaces are discouraged. I'm not a fan of glossy surfaces, but turns out my mouse pad is already too glossy. So I had to wrap it in PAPER in order to improve the tracking performance. And still it's not so great. I'll have to find a fabric mouse pad I guess...
- Third, the bottom of the mouse is totally flat (no "raisers") and the sensor area is plastic. The sensor is not recessed, it's simply covered by this plastic surface. End result: if you're not using it on soft fabric (you know, like you're SUPPOSED to do), it will get scratched in no time. Now, on the web site it says "don't clean this with tissue paper as it's too abrasive, and the sensor will not work very well". Right. As if I'm never using this on something more abrasive than a clean tissue paper...
Any other mouse I owned performs better than this. Including the (admittedly, wired) Logitech M100.
This is a mouse for a very small niche market, at best. And a big design failure, at worst.
How could it get much worse than a mouse which stutters, tracks the wrong movements as soon as the surface is not "suitable", and gets scratched in the sensor area after a few days of use on clean paper??
