Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 for Mac

If you've got light, you've got power

This solar-powered keyboard makes battery hassles a thing of the past. The keyboard charges itself with any light, including the one on your desk. So you can say goodbye to battery changes and charging cables—all with a streamlined design that looks and feels great. Now, made for your Mac.

Small steps, bright future

It's a small step. But the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 for Mac is a step in the right direction. From the PVC-free construction to the fully recyclable box, this keyboard is designed to minimise its footprint. So once you've opened the box and taken out the keyboard and the tiny Logitech Unifying receiver, that's all you'll need. And because it's solar, you won't have to bother about changing batteries. We think you'll agree these small steps add up to a big difference.

Features

Powered by light
  • Charges itself whenever there's light, even lamplight
  • Stays charged for at least three months in total darkness
  • Eliminates the need for keyboard batteries, power bricks and USB power cables
Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 for Mac
Only 7.5-mm (1/3-inch) thick

With sleek lines and a thin profile, this stylish, streamlined keyboard adds style to your workspace—whether you’ve got a laptop or desktop.

Familiar Mac layout

All the keys—plus a Launchpad hot key—are exactly where you expect them to be, including music and brightness controls, command keys and the eject key. And it all works right out of the box. No software installation required.

Feel-good typing

It almost feels like typing on your laptop, but more comfortable. Combining the best of traditional keyboards, laptops and a Logitech-only concave key cap design, you’ll enjoy faster, quieter, feel-good typing—hour after hour.

Powerful wireless connection

Logitech Advanced 2.4 GHz wireless gives you the reliability of a cord plus wireless convenience and freedom: fast data transmission, with virtually no delays, dropouts or interference.

Long-range connection lets you work or play in more places, like your comfy couch.

Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 for Mac
Logitech Unifying receiver

The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop, so there's no need to unplug it when you move around.

You can easily add up to five more Unifying-compatible devices. Add a keyboard, switch between mice, mix and match to fit your lifestyle. All without having to change nano receivers or sacrifice another USB port.

Plug-and-play simplicity

Setup takes seconds—you simply plug the wireless receiver into a USB port on your computer and start using your keyboard right away without software.

What you need

  • Mac OS X 10.4 or later
  • USB port
  • Light source from sunlight and/or indoor lighting

To be honest I really wanted to get an Apple made wireless keyboard, but am so glad I didn't. Whilst I think there is no equal to the Apple made keyboard, it's style and build quality are second to none, it simply doesn't do all I want.

For me I need a keyboard with a number pad, and the only Apple one I could find was wired, and I prefer wireless. So I searched for other brands, and hadn't considered this til I saw it in store and was impressed with the build quality (compared with some of the cheaper chiclet style keyboards out there). Then I realised it was solar and thought bingo. Right now I am sat at my desk typing this review with this keyboard, it's dark outside and only artificial light on, and it's fully powered without any issues.

I've got it connected along with my Logitech anywhere MX mouse via a single unifying usb dongle (which is tiny), so only one USB port required for both. Unifying is simple, download the software from Logitech and follow the prompts, takes seconds and frees up a USB port.

For those of you who have not had the pleasure of typing on a chiclet style kepboard, you'll never go back - ever noticed how it feels nicer typing on your laptop than your desktop at work? Well if you have chances are your laptop has a chiclet style keyboard, and your desktop keyboard doesn't.

Key Pros:
- Feels great to type on
- Solar power works even with just the lights on
- Mac keys work
- Only one usb dongle needed if you use compatible logitech mouse

Cons:
- None really except the board does have a little bit of flex in it

As always, there's a gap in Apple's product lineup. They have their wireless bluetooth keyboard, which is fine but has no number pad, which is something I use quite a bit (and I prefer RF for better compatibility with other operating systems). Then they have their wired keyboard, which is perfect in every way for me, except it would be nice for it to be wireless and not be constrained by the fairly short cord.

So I figured the Logitech product ticks both boxes, plus it is solar powered so more efficient and environmentally friendly than a battery powered keyboard. It's a great idea, and for the brief time I had it, even in low light, the keyboard never ran out of power.

However, I returned it after only a couple of days because it suffers from 2 problems that for me ruin the product:

1. It is a Mac keyboard, specifically designed for the Mac. And yet, I had to install Logitech's horrible Control Center software to make the function keys work properly for volume, iTunes controls etc. It didn't actually work 'out of the box' which I find stupid for a product that is designed for native Mac use. The additional problem with the software is that I also have a Logitech mouse, and the software overrides all other drivers for my mouse too. This is terrible because, well, 3rd party drivers make the mouse run a lot smoother (eg USB Overdrive).

Looking around on the internet, it seems that other people have experienced problems, and Logitech haven't been at all receptive. The implicit message from them seems to be 'tough'. Which makes me more inclined to say 'tough, you aren't getting my money'.

Keyboard works particularly well and the novelty of having it charged by the ceiling lights has not yet worn off. It is also great to have a single USB receiver handling both mouse and keyboard. In use, the Keyboard feels good to the touch.

Keyboard has a great feel to it, a pleasure to use.
Negatives - there is no bluetooth, unlike apple wireless keyboards, so you lose a USB slot.
My main reason for purchase was the solar panels - no more changing batteries. Power always at 100% so they seem very efficient.

Great keyboard. This is the second one I have purchased for our office. Takes some getting used to if you have been using a standard DELL or Microsoft keyboard. It's the closest thing I have come to an apple keyboard so far. It's expensive, but I think its worth it and with the solar power I don't have to keep changing batteries. looks great too.

Lower quality than i expected from Logitech, especially at a price comparable to an apple keyboard. I will admit, this keyboard had all the functionality that i wanted - wireless, no worry about batteries and with the full number pad/extra keys. However the build quality was very poor. The backing behind the keys had bubbled up when i received it and continued to do so with use. The enter key was loose when it arrived and fell off within 24hrs. The whole keyboard seems a little curved. And the connection was erratic so that frequently typed keys would not process, or there would be a delay. So i've sent it back.

Amazing keyboard. I was thinking of getting the official apple one, but this seems to do the job splendidly. I have purchased Logitech mouse and have connected both devices through one usb. Connects very easily and very fast and until now, I had no problems with it. The solar battery is always an addition and it works with artificial lights like your desk lamp. What more can you ask for.
