Complete control of your entertainment devices hidden behind cabinet doors

Are you ready for a remote that not only controls all your entertainment devices, but also helps keep your entertainment room looking neat, clean and beautiful? Then the Harmony 900 is your remote. With its advanced wireless RF system, you can keep the shelves of devices and cables hidden inside a closed cabinet or cupboard. And since it's a Harmony remote, no clutter also means no compromises. Your Harmony 900 is the only remote you'll ever need. It replaces up to 15 remotes. And you have one-touch activity control of all the entertainment equipment you own today, plus any you add tomorrow. Your new home stereo. Your old DVD player. Your future gaming system. Now you can bring them all together, keep them out of sight, and put all your entertainment at your fingertips.

RF technology for 100-foot wireless control of out-of-sight components
Goodbye clutter. Goodbye pointing. Hello control. Thanks to advanced RF (radio frequency) wireless technology, the Harmony 900 works where most remotes don't -through solid media cabinet and cupboard doors and solid walls. So you never lose control. In fact, the connection is so powerful, you can control all your gear from up to 100 feet away - or from another room - without even having to aim the remote. And setting up or adding devices for RF system control couldn't be easier. Just select them right on the screen of your remote and you're done in 10 minutes, tops.

Simply touch that command, displayed on the remote's full colour screen. Harmony 900 automatically starts the activity you want.Full colour touch-screen for one-touch activity control
What would you like to do? Watch TV? Watch a DVD? Listen to music? Simply touch that command, displayed on the remote's full colour screen. Harmony 900 automatically starts the activity you want, so you get right to it. You can even pre-set your favourite TV channels, so they're always just one touch away.

In-cabinet blaster system makes it easy to extend your reach
Say you're sitting in your favourite chair, ready to settle in for a marathon movie night. You reach for your Harmony 900, press the "Watch a DVD" button and all the right devices turn on - even though they're actually behind you inside the closet. With the remote's reach-extending blaster system, not even walls or cabinet doors can come between you and your entertainment. The system includes an easy-to-install main blaster and two mini blasters that work seamlessly with the remote. Just plug them in and place them inside the cabinet next to the devices you want to control. It's that simple. And the signal is so strong you can even move them around without losing performance.

The smooth, contoured shape feels comfortable in your hand.Thoughtful, intuitive design for easy entertainment control
Logitech thought of everything to make using the remote easy and enjoyable. The smooth, contoured shape feels comfortable in your hand. Sculpted buttons are placed in logical zones so you can go directly to the command you want without giving it a second thought. Plus, they're fully backlit. So it's easy for you or anyone who picks up the remote to find the right channel, even in home-theatre darkness.

Convenient recharging dock keeps your remote charged and ready
From now on, you won't have to look for batteries when you could be watching TV. Just place the remote in its recharging dock and your remote is always charged and ready for action. It's also a great home base for your remote, so it's always close at hand and within arm's reach.

Replaces up to 15 remotes, controls virtually any component
Harmony 900 lets you eliminate all the clutter and complexity of different remotes for different equipment. Control up to 15 devices, from Betamax to Blu-Ray players, VCRs to DVD units, MP3 players to home stereos. With the world's largest online A/V control database, your Harmony remote supports more than 225,000 home entertainment components from over 5,000 brands. And more are added every day. Awesome! 12 Mar 2010
By Mr M
This is a brilliant bit of kit. I'm usually really fussy and can identify flaws in everything but this thing is really, really good!

To make it work you need to connect it to your PC with the supplied USB cable and run the Harmony software from the supplied CD/logitec.com. You will need www access to do this since it checks for updates to the software/firmware on every use and (more importantly) stores the profile you create within your username (i.e. backs-up your lovingly created config).

Be prepared to spend at least an hour on its initial config as you need to add all your devices. You will probably also need to continually tweak it in your first few days/weeks of use - not because it doesn't work, but it takes the human brain a little while to comprehend the potential of all the little nuances and time-saving additions you can configure. Basically, if you can think it (and it's possible via button presses on a remote) then this thing will do it. I've had mine for a month now and I'm still amending/adding various options - but this is VERY easy to do.

The genius of this remote lies in the ability to set up "Activities".

Here's how it works. Say for example you regularly "Watch Sky TV". You can set this up as an activity. Pressing this button does the following (assuming you've set it up right): Turns on the Sky Box, Switches your AV amp to your Sky box input, turns on your TV (already set to the correct AV input) and configures all the buttons so that the up/down channel controls the Sky box and the up/down volume controls the AV Amp. This was great until one day my TV Vol was set kinda high from a previous viewing session and there was an echo. So... back to the config program and I added two "soft buttons" (up to 8 "pages" of six completely configurable buttons can be added per activity!) for up/down TV Vol.

Basically this unit rewards patience and "wouldn't it be nice if" style thinking in spades.

Bored with "Watch Sky TV"? Hit "Watch DVD" and your entire AV set-up morphs into a DVD player. The Sky box turns off, the TV switches AV input, the AV amp switches to DVD and the DVD player comes on. All the buttons now control the DVD and the AV amp and a whole new range of soft buttons appear (ones that I've "invented", such as Subtitles, Audio track, Top Menu, eject, etc).

This is a seriously capable bit of kit; I concede that it's pretty complicated too, but it does repay any time/effort involved in its set up. It is currently doing the job of six remotes and is still impressing me with it's "tweakability". I would say that it's worth every penny. I have no idea what the "US power" guy was talking about in his rather unfair one-star review - mine came with both UK/EU style plug adapters.

I didn't think I'd use the RF element of this. The idea is that you can shut all your kit away in a wooden box and the remote uses Radio to communicate to an IR relay (hidden in the same wooden box). However, because my coffee table sometimes blocked the remote's IR signal I set up the IR emitter under the sofa and now I can control everything from anywhere in my house!

It has no trouble controlling my new Bose V30 Amp or my 15 year old Mitsubishi VCR. My only gripe (if I had to identify one) is that for this kind of money it really should control my PS3 without the need for an additional adapter. I haven't bought the PS3 bluetooth adapter yet but I'm tempted... This basically works in the same way as the IR relay, turning the 900's button presses (and IR/RF output) into bluetooth signals for the PS3 and is about £[].

I guess it's personal preference between this more conventional remote and the Harmony 1100 which uses more soft buttons. I liked the idea of using normal buttons for volume, play, pause, etc and so opted for the 900. Personal choice as I said.

In summary - buy one of these, it's honestly the best thing since sliced bread!

Amazon Verified Purchase
My decision to go to a single universal remote control unit was probably the same as everybody else's. Too many remote handsets littering the coffee table with the majority of them so similar in appearance the one I wanted was always the last one I picked up. I'd never used a universal remote before so I was just a little sceptical of how this would work out so I browsed various reviews for a number of days before finally selecting what admittedly appeared to be the most expensive, the Logitech Harmony 900. Do you get what you pay for when you make such a decision? One month on since my purchase I can categorically say yes you do! It's amazing! Like all gadgets the setting up procedures had me trembling in fear. I rarely read instruction manuals if I think I can get away with it. The '900' comes with little in the way of written instructions except for a quick start guide and a CD-rom. Believe me, it's all you need. Connect your harmony to USB port with the cable provided, insert the disc and you're automatically directed to the Logitech setting up website and away you go. Each required process is preceded on screen with a simple instruction and having previously noted down the make and model no's of the various equipment I wanted to load into my new remote I was through the setting up procedure in no time and ready to try my brand new and very slick looking remote control. And would you belive it? It worked! I currently have 7 separate media units loaded, 2 of which I loaded at a later date. You can reconnect your Harmony 900 back to the set-up site at any time and add additional devices or amend the settings or even remove completely a device at any time. My latest addition was the air conditioning units which I set up via the site again but this time followed the device 'learning' procedure with instructions once more making the whole process simple. The Harmony 900 remote is an extremely well-built unit with quality micro-switches apparent by the ease and smoothness of operation. No more batteries to keep replacing with the rechargeable base unit rapidly topping up the unit and giving me several days heavy usage before a quick recharge is necessary. The seperate RF 'blasters supplied with the unit are simply positioned in any location adjacent to your media centre enabling you to turn things on whilst virtually stood in another room. The touch screen facility is sublime in operation and never disappoints whilst the clever logic of enabling different units to work in tandem, such as your TV with your satellite receiver, now only requires one touch of the touch screen to turn both on or off at the same time. It's brilliant. I wholeheartedly recommend it. There's a clever logic you almost don't notice taking place during the setting up process which suddenly makes you feel in control of everything. If you press a wrong button or gently touch the touch-screen in the wrong place there's a device logic built that you'll quickly learn which will haul you out of any situation you've got yourself into accidentally in seconds. The Harmony 900 is not cheap....but it's worth it!

Remote wonder 9 Oct 2009
I always had my doubt about buying these remotes from previous mixed reviews, especially when you are paying big bucks for the pleasure, but after eventually taking a leap of faith and purchasing this little wonder I am so happy I did.
It is currently replacing 4 other remote controls, plus it even works on my laptop too! I am able to control the windows media functions on my laptop, I was amazed.
So far I have this controlling my:
1. Loewe T.v.
2. Yamaha Networkable Amp.
3. Pioneer Blue Ray player
4. Now T.V. digital set top box.
Unfortunately I was not able to locate the correct model and number for the set top box on the logitech web site (I think the online menu could be a little more helpful especially when you are not able to locate your exact equipment), but it was so simple to get the Harmony 900 to learn the set top box remote functions.

One tip I would definitely suggest would be to make sure you make a note of all your equipment you want to set up beforehand, check it on the logitech web site too, and then think about how your equipment is set up and how you want the harmony 900 to work the equipment. This does take some time to set up so don't think it is a five minute job, it isn't! It does take some time and you will find that there is some fine tuning afterward too.

Using the remote once it is all set up is easy, just a push of a button and the remote does all the work.
The Harmony 900 does feel a little light in the hands but does feel easy to hold and use with one hand, although the glossy cover does leave some fingerprints.
The remote buttons are pretty responsive, but sometime there can be a little lag on the touch screen commands. I find that I have to touch it a few times before there is a response. This usually only happens when it has been sitting idle for a while.
The remote comes with a radio zapper. Although I have not yet set these up, I gather from the instructions that this is quite easy and the remote zapper can be placed inside the cabinet with the equipment.
Overall, a great remote to replace all your other remotes.
