I have had two "mighty" mice for my i Mac, the first packed up within weeks and the second within a few months. I was therefore looking for a quality bit of kit that lived up to the quality of my i Mac and the programmes on it. I also wanted one that did not need batteries (ie corded). The logitech 500 is very accurate and ergonomically designed, which makes it very comfortable to use. The fast scroll wheel is great when scrolling through long web pages. This is the best mouse I have ever used and is particularly useful on photoshop where accuracy is crucial. Software has to be downloaded to enable all the functions, this is really straightforward however the basic functions work straight out of the box. The mouse was £25 from Amazon a real bargain for such a quality product

I have an old Logitech MX510 I've been using for several years as a full time graphic designer, which is still going strong.

Less than a year ago I needed a new mouse for a home set up as I prefer a corded mouse with full functionality (I'm not keen on Apple's mice or trackpads for professional design work). So as Logitech no longer make the MX510 I decided to buy the M500, having researched every corded mouse on the market.

The problem with buying a mouse is that you don't know how you're going to get on with one until you've tried it for a long enough period of time. At first I quite liked this mouse, due to the accelerated scroll wheel which is very handy when working on a 27 inch display but did feel the overall quality of the product felt cheap compared to my trusty old MX510.

Over the last month I noticed the buttons seemed to feel as though they were sticking - particularly the left click. At first I thought this might be down to me but it got progressively worse to the point where it is now unusable! I'm unable to click and drag as the mouse either fails to respond or decides to double click instead. Having tried installing the latest driver to no avail I searched online to find the problems I'm encountering are common. Apparently the build quality of this product is poor, particularly the switches used in the buttons. They wear out quickly.

I've contacted Logitech and am awaiting a response. I'm hoping they will replace it as it is still under warranty but I will aim to sell the replacement and look for a mouse that is reliable like my old MX510.

My advice would be to avoid this mouse, particularly if you plan to use it on a daily basis as it isn't likely to last.

After having lots of trouble with an expensive cordless keyboard/mouse set I decided to try a corded mouse again for a change. What a joy not to have the cursor not jumping about the screen or reusing to move at all. Would definitely recommend it.

This is a great mouse, especially at this price. It's smooth, accurate and comfortable, and unlike some mice I've had, the thumb buttons are sensibly positioned so you can actually use them without having to rearrange your hand. The cord is long, slender and flexible, so it doesn't get in the way or interfere with the mouse's motion.

The only downside to this mouse is that the wheel needs pressing quite hard to get a middle-click, but that's a minor thing and doesn't stop this being a 5-star mouse.

This is one of the best corded mouses money can buy. I got this after a similar wireless mouse had frequent short disconnects when trying to connect to the USB wireless receiver. In contrast, this corded model works very smoothly and the fast scroll wheel makes it very easy to navigate through long web pages or documents. It fits my hand like a glove and all the buttons are at just the right location. If you are looking for a new, corded mouse and don't want the battery hassle or occasional connection issues of some wireless models, you've just found the mouse you'll need. Excellent product and another quality product from Logitech.

I bought already one 2 years ago, gave me no issues, accurate, gliding smoothly on desk surface, and works fine (drivers automatically loaded by windows, and should be available at logitech support website) with XP, Vista and Win7. I gave it recently to my family for use. And as I was quite satisfied with it and liked the smooth rolling, I bought another one for myself. In general I prefer the wired mouses to the wireless because of unavoidable connection and battery issues.
Till now satisfied.. We'll see if it will last :)

I bought one of these to use insead of my wireless MX620, because in my experience wired mice are more responsive and accurate than their wireless counterparts. And the M500 is indeed more responsive and accurate (measured in terms of drawing straight lines in Paint), so it's a good mouse in that respect.

However I sent it back because I didn't like the feel of the microswitches for the left and right buttons. There didn't seem to be much travel in them and the click felt a bit "mushy" and not very satisfying. It's perhaps a subjective thing, but the microswitch components were clearly different to the MX620's.

But the main reason why you probably shouldn't buy this mouse is because you can get the Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse instead, which is in just about every respect a superior product. Don't be put off by the fact it's called a "gaming mouse"; this just means it's just a higher specifictation and has many features that make it good for general purpose desktop use, and especially for graphics work.

Prices vary, but a few days ago both the M500 and G500 were selling at about the same price (£30-32)... I notice that today the M500 is about £5.50 cheaper, but I still think the G500 is easily worth the extra. I'm not sure how Amazon sells them so cheaply, nearly half price from their RRP and £15 cheaper than most places online, but who cares... grab a bargain while you can! The G500 has variable precision, higher reporting frequency, a nice braided cable, more buttons (to which you can assign macros), larger sliding pads, variable weighting.

The only reason you might go for the M500 is because you prefer the more sober colour scheme, or because it's apparently 6g lighter (144g vs 150g, although that's a pretty small difference).
