Worth every single penny!, 4 Oct 2008
This review is from: Logitech V550 Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Laptops Grey (Electronics)
I waited a long time for this mouse to become available, and it was totally worth the wait. You get the quality and useability you would expect from logitech.
All you need to do is put in the batteries, plug in the tiny USB receiver, and your mouse is ready to use.
Design: Lovely sleek design. The buttons are not separated adding to the sleekness. It was ideal for me without too many buttons which are not necessary...just left and right buttons, scroller and a scroller mode button. You can do everything else using your keyboard!
Use: very responsive as you would expect for an optical mouse. The scroller is great allowing precision, or speed by clicking the scroller mode button. It can be used on pretty much any surface, I tend to use it on my lap. So no need to buy a mouse mat!
Battery life: I don't know how long the batteries will last as I have only just started using the mouse, but I predict it will be good due to a couple of features. There is a power off switch on the base of the mouse which will extend battery life considerably. And for those who are using the dock, the mouse will automatically power off when docked.
Portability: Has a unique docking capability, called "Clip and go". You receive little buttons with your mouse (a black and a silver one to match most laptops). All you need to do is stick this to your laptop, and then your mouse can be clipped onto it for easy carrying. Also once stuck on the button is securely fastened and you do not have to worry about your mouse falling off. The button can be removed using the tool provided, however it can't be stuck on again after it has been removed. This is very convenient for anyone who prefers to use a mouse, but moves laptop around a lot. You can also store the USB receiver inside the mouse if you don't want to keep it plugged in. My only concern is that in time I will want replacement buttons, hopefully these will be available from Logitech.
If you are thinking of buying this product, it will be ideal for you if you want to move your laptop around a lot, and if you appreciate a sleek simple design.
If you want lots of fancy functions this is not the mouse for you.

Good build quality - ideal for left handers, 16 Jan 2009
This is a very nicely sized mouse considering it is supposed to be for laptops - I've had no problem using this with my desktop. It has a very strudy, chunky feel about it, and first impressions suggest it will last a long time.
The USB transmitter is tiny and slots invisibly into the USB port on my keyboard. I'm using it on Mac OSX Leopard and all buttons work without the need to install Logitech's software. It's very sensitive, so you'll probably need to turn down sensitivity in System Prefs.
The scroll wheel feels nice - just the right amount of clicky-resistance, and if you push it down it removes the clicks and allows for 'flick-n-spin' scrolling through long documents - however I doubt I would ever use this. There's a button just below the scroll wheel which on my system automatically mimics the 'middle button' setting in System Prefs.
It is unlikely that I will install the laptop screen clip, but will certainly use the mouse on my laptops when out and about.
Being left handed, many mice are out of bounds, but this mouse is perfectly symmetrical, so works for everyone equally. Some people will prefer a bigger mouse, but for me it's just the right size for all uses. 4 stars because the design is a tad dull!

Great quality mouse, 15 Nov 2008
This review is from: Logitech V550 Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Laptops Grey (Electronics)
Have to agree with the above review that this mouse is worth the money. It's very high quality and really nice to use. Unlike the V150 (wired, lazer) which I also own, the lazer in the V550 works perfectly on all surfaces, including materials, and tracks exceptionally smoothly with no pointer jumping. I've also noticed virtually no lag due to the mouse being wireless. The wireless range seems really good, it was still working just as well from 2 metres, and that wireless receiver is so discreet.
One thing you may not know is the scroll wheel doesn't work as a third button, it does click in, but just to switch between smooth and notched mode, it doesn't count as a middle button click and cannot be set to do so. However there is an additional button just below the wheel which can be set to middle click.
The mouse is pretty much full sized btw and pretty weighty once the AA batteries are installed, but it's not too heavy to be a problem. My laptop doesn't move around a lot so I won't be using the nipple system to attach the mouse, but the mouse has a simple hold-to-switch-off button on the underneath and it goes into power saving after 25 seconds or so. I can't comment on the battery life having just got the mouse, but I will update this review when the included Duracels wear out.
Overall a great wireless mouse.
update: Had the mouse nearly 3 months now using it 2-3 hrs per day and the batteries are on 85%.
