Instant gratification
If you thought your Squeezebox player was easy to set up, wait until you add more. When you connect a new one, they automatically find each other. Your favorites and playlists are instantly ready to be played on your new toy. It’s so simple, you might not want to stop at just two.

In sync or independent
Want to listen to the same music in every room? You can synchronize all your Squeezebox players so you can move around the house without missing a beat. But if you want to listen to one thing and someone else wants to listen to another, you can do that too. Got more than two Squeezeboxes? They can be synchronized or played independently in any combination you choose.

In your control
Add a Squeezebox Controller and you’ve got control of all your Squeezebox players in the palm of your hand. You can turn any of them on or off, browse and play music, and adjust the volume. And it uses your wireless network—so you don’t need to be in the same room as the player you’re controlling.

I have had my Squeezebox controller for nearly 18 months now and it has been a typical Logitech product; reliable, of good build quality, but a bit pricey. Well now the cost seems to be getting more palatable and is certainly worth considering. If you are contemplating buying one of these then hopefully you are already familiar with the 'Squeezebox Server' software. You will require an up-to date installation of this server software in order to automatically pump the latest firmware into this device. I strongly recommend doing this to avoid the odd handset-reboot. I'm currently on firmware release 7.5.1-r9009 and it's rock-solid. The FOC Squeezebox server software is an impressive multi-platform facility for supporting streamed audio devices. However it's operational environment can be complex, especially if it's the users first-time steps into the wifi or 'Home' LAN world. Hence anger and frustration is often vented towards it in reviews and the associated device that is being installed.
This "Controller" is a wifi only device that has to be able to connect to your Router or "Access Point" to operate. Consider where it will be used:- Pressing the start button on my microwave oven will 'JAM' all wifi activity in my kitchen. Somewhat a little worrying for the chef!
The screen on my unit is difficult to view outdoors in modest daylight and is the main complaint I have with it. Better visible screen technologies might be deployed now by Logitech but I've seen no reports of this. On very large audio libraries the current menu selection process with this device can appear cumbersome but I'm sure will be enhanced on future firmware releases.
One thing that is not immediately apparent is that besides being a flashy remote wifi controller for your Logitech audio device it is also a personal wifi 'audio-player'. You can plug ear-phones into it and instruct the Squeezebox server software to pipe stereo music into your ears. For me it means I can relax outdoors on the patio hammock to enjoy my audiophile library, streamed music services or any Internet radio station that's out there. And the sound quality is very agreeable indeed.
I rate this product 4 out of 5 because it still remains at a somewhat premium price but the continued firmware enhancements have certainly been beneficial.

I had one of these for a couple of years before I sold it on eBay, and I must say it is far superior to the boxed remote that comes with the Squeezeboxes. The problem is that you can't type on them when searching, so if you have a large library you either have to scroll a lot, or search by name which involves using the scrollwheel to select one letter at a time, click, scroll, etc..

The screen is also very small, so although you can see what you're doing its still very small.

This might be a good solution for some, but with the advent of smart phones and tablets this device has become largely redundant.

There are some very good apps available for iPhone/iPad & Android phones and tablets (including one by Logitech which is not as good as some others), that allow you to control all of your squeezeboxes, so if you own one of those then don't bother with this remote.

Squeezebox is a wonderful system if you can live with the quirks and one might think that the addition of a full fledged remote would increase its usefullness yet further. Until two years ago, you might have been right. However, the advent of the smartphone gives even more flexibility, a bigger display and stops you having to find the remote in the first place. If you run an Android based phone, look no further than Squeezebox Commander (about three quid) and you can spend the rest of your saved cash and go a very large part of the way towards a second Squeezebox Radio or Touch and yes - Squeezebox Commander powers two separate devices independantly too, if that is what you want.
