Ok, have had Logitech mice for a fair while as a gamer, last mouse before this was the predecessor, the Logitech G5 gaming mouse. Was a good mouse, pretty good response and was basically a big comfortable mouse.

The G9 has some pretty good abilities under the hood, the 3,200 dpi is pretty sensitive and may take some getting used to for those fast reaction FPS games but it also has the same variable resolution buttons on the as the G5 (very handy).

My only concern is the shape of the G9. Most mice are based on the "coffee bean" shape, named smooth and curved. The first thing you notice when holding the G9 (especially with the larger interchangeable mould) is that the back is almost square cut.

When you get used to it, it does make for a tighter fit into the hand, but even after a few days use, it does still does not "feel" right in your palm.

Conclusion, is a great performance mouse, a good evolution of the G5 but the shape may make this a "marmite" mouse (e.g. you will love it or hate it).

4.0 out of 5 stars Mouse for Gaming 4 Oct 2007
By M. A. Ramos TOP 1000 REVIEWER
I have used various Logitech mouse systems. The last one was the MX700 series and I was happy with it. The G9 was a nice surprise. It is even more comfortable to use then my last MX mouse. The variable weight options and adjustable grips give you all you need to give the mouse the feel you are more comfortable with. With the exception of the nice sloping back of the MX 700 series is gone. I think they should have given you the opportunity to keep that profile. But other than that you may choose how heavy you want the mouse and how wide. And you lose none of the normal Logitech ergonomics you are accustomed too. It is very comfortable to use and that comes in handy when you spend hours at a time using your mouse.

You are also able to select the responsiveness and tracking you prefer in your mouse and set your profile settings per game. That is you can store multiple mouse profiles, I have only stored two so far. I love the fact you can store macros in this mouse for your gaming (or other functions, I just use them for gaming). You can use the LEDs to remind you of which profile you are on with a glance; or change colors just because you want too. I also like the fact that I can take this mouse with me to use on what ever computer I happen to use since your settings are saved within the mouse itself. The scroll wheel is as precise as you would expect from the latest model of Logitech MX models, which is very nice. The two other thing I would have liked seen added to this game mouse is a couple of more programmable buttons and for it to have been wireless; but the lack of buttons that I have grown use to in gaming is the big hit to me. Add the buttons for us gamers and this will be a huge winner. I also look forward to the updated SetPoint software. This mouse has me seriously considering upgrading my keyboard to the Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard to increase the number of macros I can have programmed. For the price I would only recommend this mouse for the game player. If you do not play games, you do not need it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mercedes Of Mice! 22 Sep 2007
By Martin A Hogan HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWER
This is the ultimate in gaming/mouse experiences. You can adjust the sensitivity of the mouse for gaming. Once you have that under control, your gaming precision is sure to get faster and more accurate. As far as simply being a good mouse, it has great features. There is a choice between a wider or thinner mouse grip. I use the wider one as my hands are large and I have always had trouble with thinner mice. Plus, you can add weight to the mouse (up to 28 g), which is something I had never thought would be such a great advantage. The bulk and the sensitivity really improves handling. The scroll wheel can be adjusted to either a smooth or a click response (I prefer the click). Just the velvety feel and the wider grip makes a huge difference. This might seem minor, but the cord is braided which makes it easy to distinguish when plugging and unplugging in the back of my desktop.
