This cable connects to the IPOD via the dock connector at it's base, rather than the headphone socket that you would have to use with a standard AUX male-to-male cable. So what's the difference ?

Well, by using the dock connection, the car audio takes control of the sound rather than the IPOD (the IPOD volume level is ignored). You can manipulate the sound using your car stereo's volume and tone controls. In my case, this made a difference in two key areas - volume and quality. Volume was much higher than what I previously got from the headphone socket and my perception was that quality was improved - there seemed to be more clarity and crispness about the music and a fuller soundstage, likely, at least in part, related to the improved volume and tone control. For reference, I was using an IPOD Classic 120G.

The cable does appear to be a bit flimsy (though I don't think it would break easily in normal usage) and it does snag up without too much effort, but you shouldn't really need to mess about with it much, once you have found a satisfactory placement and suitable cable length that meets your needs. Like any standard AUX, it doesn't charge the IPOD, but at this price point that's not unreasonable.

Overall, this is a very good product for the price and will almost certainly improve your in-car IPOD listening pleasure over and above a standard AUX cable.

I ordered one of these last week & as always with Amazon delivery was speedy. The cable works well in my Lexus which has an audio output in the armrest cubby hole. However the cable doesn't feel robust for prolonged use - the cable I was wanting to purchasae 'Cables to Go' 35508 is for sale on Amazon.com but shipping to the UK is not available. A plea to Amazon.co.uk - can you provide this cable in the UK ?

Transforms sound quality 17 April 2009
    By pjg50
I've tried several ways to connect my iPod classic to my car. Originally an FM transmitter, which was OK but kept having to be re-tuned on longer journeys. Then I installed an "aux-in" adaptor, and used a 3.5mm cable from the headphone socket on the iPod. Much better sound (especially in back to back comparisons), much the same as playing CDs. But it needed the iPod volume to be turned up to maximum, which sometimes led to distortion. Finally I bought the Logic3 connector, which uses the iPod's aux socket. Sound quality hasn't changed, but now the iPod's volume setting makes no difference, and the car's volume control can be set to a sensible level. I wish I had bought this straight away. It would be perfect if it had the facility to charge the iPod too, but that's probably asking too much.

    Don't buy it.
The casing and spring mechanism fell apart after a very few uses. The cable still works, but I might as well have just bought a cable in the first place.
