This is the nicest casserole style pot I have used. Equally good for browning on the hob or slow cooking in the oven.

Comes clean very easily if you just use a medium stiff washing up brush under the tap (no soap or washing up liquid).

A quick wipe around with a bit of oil on some paper towel makes it gleam.

Bit heavy, but then cast iron is.

I have a Village "Kitchener" 8kw cast iron wood stove with top hot-plate and back boiler. With this dutch oven, I can bake rolls, scones, bread or small pies; as well as fry meat, or simmer soup or stews on the wood stove.

A kettle and a dutch oven meet all my cooking needs in a rural stone bothy, snug despite no modern cons. If you have a wood stove the top of which reaches 350º F., you can cook almost anything in a dutch oven, --though it may take longer than a cookbook recommends.

If you cannot afford a wood stove with an oven, a dutch oven --the larger the better-- atop a wood stove will give you satisfying results.
