Book Description

30 July 2009

NEW YORK

It may be Christmas in New York, but for ex-soldier turned élite bodyguard Ryan Lock it's business as usual: his mission is to protect one of America's most ruthless businessmen.

A BLOODY SHOOT-OUT

Suddenly gunshots ring out. People run for cover. Innocent people are mown down. Amid the chaos, Lock's hunt for the killers turns into an explosive game of cat and mouse.

A DEADLY SECRET

Lock's search for the truth takes him from the rooftops of a New York skyscraper to a heavily fortified warehouse on the Hudson where he confronts one of the world's most dangerous women.

As the clock ticks towards midnight on New Year's Eve, all routes into and out of Manhattan are sealed, and Lock realises that not only is his own life in terrible danger but so are the lives of millions of others...

A thrilling debut that locks you in and loads up the tension! (Simon Kernick )

Funny, tough, and furiously paced, Lockdown explodes off the page. (JESSE KELLERMAN )

Hold on tight-this one burns like a lit fuse. (GREGG HURWITZ )

An action movie on the printed page. Throw into this mayhem Ryan Lock, a protagonist tough enough to take on the Jacks of this world (thats Bauer and Reacher) and you've got an adrenaline-rush read that you're not going to forget any time soon. (Russel McLean )

4.0 out of 5 stars Lock down 26 Mar 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a gripping read, which starts strong and keeps the pace up all the way through. For me the last third of the book just demanded to be read in one sitting, as the action twisted and turned through New York and its surroundings.
The writer is happy to weave popular culture and current themes into the epic (and occasionally outlandish) plot.
The writing is assured, particularly the dialogue, and that confidence marks this out as a tremendous first novel. He has concentrated on the action, and resisted the urge to give us too much of the background to the characters, leaving plenty of scope for depth, and surprises I am sure, to emerge in later books in the series.
Overall this is a surprisingly strong first novel and, in a highly competitive genre, does more than enough to stand out from the crowd.
If you are scanning the best sellers for a good read, this one is well worth adding

3.0 out of 5 stars All been done before 23 Oct 2010
By M. A. Dunnington VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
A good read for a holiday, never taxes the brain, you've read it before - m any times, many times. Rather runs to form, reads like it wants to be a screen script, hardly new and exciting, but not a bad read either.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lockdown
The storyline, however well conceived, is still littered with implausible events and rather cliched moments, which are still enjoyable to read, but detract from the realistic feel. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars AN EXCELLENT READ
My passion is crime novels and this one is brilliant. I warmed to the main protagonist, Ryan Lock straightaway. Black's writing is similar to Connelly, Child and Coben. Read more
