It is quite baffling that a band who can release an album this good have never been commercially successful even in the Metal field. Catamenia's Location: COLD is probably one of the best extreme Metal albums that I have ever listened to.
As far as Catamenia's albums go, it is definitely one of their more diverse in terms of song structure. Catamenia's traditional fast-paced, blast beat-led Melodic Black Metal grinders are present in the form of tracks such as 'Gallery of Fear' and 'Zero Gravity', whilst the likes of 'Closed Gates of Hope' and the titular track finely display the 'Blackened Power Metal' style more associated with their earlier albums. Also thrown in the mix are a couple of Heavy Metal-inspired tracks, 'The Day the Sun Faded Away' and the outstanding 'Coldbound', both of which appear to have remained fan favourites to this very day and certainly add more diversity to the album. To top it all off, in typical Catamenia fashion the album ends with a cover, this time around coming in the form of W.A.S.P.'s 'I Wanna Be Somebody', which the band pulls off exceptionally.
Overall, this is an excellent album which is consistent from start to finish with a fine display of musicianship (particularly from lead guitarist Riku Hopeakoski) and songwriting from the band. If you're into the more extreme side of Metal but love melodic riffing and Power Metal influences, then you'll love this.
Standout tracks - 'Coldbound'
