I first read this back when I was a young teenager.
Although Bob was relatively famous on our TV's at that time (he was a presenter on the BBC's 'Pebble Mill at One'lunchtime TV programme), the book gave no hint that he was in anyway a 'star' as he was very down-to-earth.
I haven't read it for years and years but still remember it fondly and would love to read it again one day. It covers his years travelling across America and, I believe canada to some extent) living as he went by working and observing the culture and the people.
I don't think what he did then could easily be duplicated today in today's climate (particularly in the USA), so it holds a certain charm about what people could do if they were adventurous and got off their backsides to see the world a little.
After reading it, I thought the guy (who was always very personable on the TV) was a hero for even attempting it. I don't think it will tax anyone reading it as I don't think it was all that long of a book, but it's still a 'good read' and one I'd certainly like to read again one day.

Lobo traces Pebble Mill at One Bob Langley's gap year hobo tour of 1960s USA. Great descriptions of people and places without any tourist office veneer. Excellent read.

I also read this book when i was a teenager and it gave me the travelling bug, the healthy kind. Very descriptive and entertaining.
