In the "Before use for the first time" instructions, it says "Ensure the room is well ventilated, as it can get a bit smelly" I can certainly vouch for that. I would recommend doing the initial burn under an extractor fan.
There is a typo in this site's description. The hot plates are 1500W & 1000W (not 500W and 1000W) but both plates can run at the same time on a 13A plug. Dimensions are approx. Width 47cm, Depth 28 cm and Height 8 cm. I have previously owned a "Russell Hobbs" 2 hob which seemed to take ages heating up and difficulty maintaining a full boil. No such trouble with this Haden, starting from cold hobs, the large hob boiled 1pt cold water in 7mins 15secs and surprisingly the small hob only took 45secs longer at 8mins. (in different saucepans at the same time.) I am very pleased with this item and with Amazon's service.

Having used the other makes on sale in previous years, such as Russell Hobbs - all easily available from high street outlets such as Argos - the temptation to buy another one purely for ease of purchase was great.
However having resisted this, and opted for this Hagen model from Amazon, boy am I glad! This is far superior to other makes, especially in build quality and heat setting strength. With the other makes, I used the highest setting for more or less all cooking, sometimes even a simmer was at a high setting! In this hagen model I rarely go above setting 3, out of a possible 6! Highly recommended.

Haden 13356 2 Hob Electric Boiling Ring with thermostat, pilot light and cool touch handles
This hotplate is excellent especially when you have a Rayburn Cooker which needs fired up before use. Most people who have Aga / Rayburns usually have an extra cooker I have found out since moving to the country - this hotpate cuts out the need! It is very economical, fast and small and can easily be stored away when not in use - well worth the money! Also saves on fuel. Recommended very highly
