Bought as a temporary stopgap, the Loytron does the job surprisingly well, but has drawbacks, as you might expect for the price level.
The main weakness is the lid, very light and flimsy and with no locking mechanism. Steam escapes freely during cooking, especially at the handle area, so it's wise to use a cloth or implement to open it. Watch out too for condensation dribbling down the exterior, where it might conceivably leak into the electrics.
Initial heating-up is fast, cooking times a bit long, but not unreasonably so. Basket diameter is about 4.5 inches, depth 3.25 inches, which allows for a good-sized portion of chips, but limits the size of anything you can cook in one piece. The 'detachable' handle of the basket is highly detachable, and difficult to re-attach while cooking. I find it safer to remove the basket using a stout fork or wide-bladed knife inserted between the handle lugs.
The supplied operating instructions evidently relate to a different model, as they refer to several features which don't exist. It remains to be seen how long the machine will last. I don't suppose it's very durable, but at the price I'm not dissatisfied with it.
