Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The Lloyds TSB Small Business Guide is a financial advisor, tax adviser, management consultant and property agent rolled into one. Now in its 15th edition, the book has been expanded to include information on selling goods and services online, together with the latest information on the UK economy and small business tax regulations. Former investment analyst, finance lecturer and journalist Sara Williams knows more than most about business and this is reflected in the breadth of the book's content. Divided into 31 chapters, the Small Business Guide covers most of the issues you'll face in the first years of running a business, from setting up partnerships to finding offices and staff, filing taxes and dealing with customers. Each chapter has a series of exercises to help you apply the information to your own situation, and also includes links to other relevant sections of the book. The book also clearly states when specialist advice will be needed.
In the new millennium, starting your own business will become a normal state of affairs. With the lack of security in corporate life and the focus on entrepreneurship in big companies, running your own business can even be part of your career plan for moving in and out of corporate existence.
With a comprehensive index that means it can be used as a day-to-day reference guide and down-to-earth, readable advice the Lloyds TSB Small Business Guide is the ideal companion, even for those without a background in business and finance. --Sally Whittle --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Detailed and comprehensive - excellent intro to subject, 9 Jan 2002

This book is extremely well-written. It covers the full spectrum of issues for a small UK business from planning to tax to marketing. It has actionable recommendations, good links and is bang up-to-date. I was concerned that it may be a bit general or all 'common-sense' ideas, but I was happy to discover that neither concern was valid.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to start a business. It gives you step-by-step advice on all the issues you need to consider and I found the chapter 'Are you sure?' really useful, as it reassured me that starting a business was the right route for me. It's a great read and a great reference book - well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect, 11 Oct 2002

Allthought the book says it is for starting businesses, it will be usefull even after your first month of trading. The book is full with tips, addresses and more. You can't be without. The fact that the book has the LLoyds name on it does not mean it appproaches all aspects from the banks point of view. It stays objective from start to finish.
