Disappointingly shallow., 20 July 2000
This review is from: Living and Working in Spain: How to Prepare for a Successful Visit, be it Short, Long-term or Forever (Living & Working Abroad) (Paperback)
I had anticipated that the content of this book would be a comprehensive guide to living and working in Spain, as the title suggests. I am in the process of purchasing a property and I was hopeful that the book would provide information on this topic and also tips on day to day living in Spain. Regrettably, I have been very disappointed. If I had purchased the book with zero knowledge of Spain, then the information contained therein would have provided a good overview, particularly on the history, culture and travel tips. There are some interesting and humerously written chapters. Unfortunately, the book failed in almost all respects to provide the information I was seeking. In summary then, a good interesting read for anyone new to Spain and contemplating maybe living and working in the country sometime in the future. However, for someone like myself who already knows the country well but needs more in depth information on day to day living in Spain, then this book is sadly lacking.

The description of the book as a 'complete guide' is totally untrue. For example, taxation, an important subject if you plan to live in Spain, occupies just half a page. If you have never been to Spain the book would suit a 12 year old. Assuming you have already spent some time in Spain this book will tell you nothing, Avoid this book at all costs - you would be better off spending the money on a good bottle of Faustino
