Loads of information on many confusing areas of moving to or living in Australia. Much better than my first purchase 'Going to Live in Australia' (Neilson & Collins).
Recommended.

I read most of the books available on this subject before migrating to Australia, so I feel confident enough to say that although this guide is sometimes exhausting... if you pick out the information which is relevant to you, and not read it from cover to cover, the information is golden.

Utter Rubbish 1 April 2010
By J. Dahl
Format:Paperback
Im sorry but this book is total junk! I have never reviewed anything before but feel so strongly about this that I have to!

I have been to Australia several times and most of my family live there (I am British however). As I am currently going through the process of getting a visa to Oz I thought I would buy this book as an inspirational tool and in order to help me as I settle in instead of calling my Sister and her partner every 2 minutes with another stupid question!

The information in this book however is not only inaccurate but also totally useless!

For example - Does my UK TV work in Oz? - The book says no as the OZ TV system works on a different type of PAL - True but rubbish!
What the book fails to mention is YES your telly does work for DVD's and if you buy a $60 freeview box to watch Oz telly through then it works perfectly fine!

The generic nature of the information is also annoying!

For example - Driving in Oz - You do not need an MOT in all states - true but the book fails to tell you which states! What it does do is send you to the OZ Dept of Transport for you to check yourself!

Why pay £10 for a book that sends you to a website for you to get the information yourself!?

From cover to cover I found not one useful piece of information! The book does not consider any of the differences between states and gives generic information.

I am also looking at importing my car - but again nothing of any use in the book!

It also totally fails to address any social differences - and there are several faux pas that are easy to make!

My advice; save the £10 and when you move to Oz spend it on some BBQ food, invite the neighbours over and get the info from locals who will have a clue whats going on!
