Sad to say, I purchased this album off eBay and was tempted to re-sell the same day!
The story goes that bootleg versions of the gig were doing the rounds and proving very popular, despite the poor sound quality. Therefore the band decided to issue a cleaned up official version. Hmmm, worth a listen then? Well, I have to say I was disappointed.
Although there is a taste of early IQ material to consider (it's largely a live version of `The Wake'), Peter Nicholls' vocals are strained and too often just off-key enough to grate. The balance of the instruments was certainly not what it should be, so quite how much effort was put into `cleaning' and balancing the live sound is anyone's guess. Why reviewers on other sites rave about this album is beyond me - we all have different tastes, I suppose, and `raw' is not mine.
I gave the album a few listens to see if it would grow on me. Frankly, it didn't. I have a growing number of IQ albums, both studio and live, old and new. As far as I am concerned, if you want to introduce yourself to IQ, there are much better albums with which to do so. This one was subsequently re-listed on eBay! Nuff said!
