WOW,
By Stan (england) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Living on a Prayer (Paperback)
If ever a book had the wow factor it is this one. From start to finish it has you hooked. This is a book for all ages and male and female alike. It deals with some pretty heart rending topics in a way I have never known another writer achieve. It has you frightened for the charectors and sitting on the edge of your seat, the next page has you laughing out loud at the antics of the ciggie smugglers. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE.

Living on a Prayer,

This review is from: Living on a Prayer (Mass Market Paperback)
Living on a prayer lifts the lid on the underbelly of society and reveals a warts and all look at the trials and tribulations that dissafected young people have to endure. Enter the slimy evil Marcel on a mission to exploit their vulnerability. Can D.C.I. Lorraine Hunt track him down,??? The tension intensifies as she races against time.
Sheila's writing style is gritty and earthy and possesses a degree of realism that would be hard to surpass. The characters are so life like. Read this to the shocking end and Houghton Le Spring will never look the same asgain. If you like hard hitting crime with a twist we strongly reccomend this novel. Living on a Prayer is one reason why Sheila Quigley has emerged on the world literary scene as an eminent crime fiction writer. Well done Sheila for raising the profile of North East crime writing and proving that high calibre writng can be found North of the M25 Anthony Major & Tula Tew

Drags a bit,
By Michael Watson "skirrow22" (Halifax, England) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Living on a Prayer (Mass Market Paperback)
If this is your first Sheila Quigley book, I strongly recommend that you read the previous two novels before this one. This is not her best (possibly the first, 'Run For Home' fits this bill). Unless the reader is aware of the characters, most of whom feature regularly in the previous books, this is a murder mystery which is slowed down by, as before, the 'think' bubbles attached to more and more of the characters as we move to a rather poor ending.
The author makes no effort to hide the culprits nor the likelihood of the next victim so a good part of the book is now taken up more with - in the main - the social life (and stresses) of DI Lorraine Hunt and DS Luke Daniels. I gather in the next book, Luke's newly found daughter takes centre stage. Whereas I was greatly looking forward to Quigley's third novel after reading 'Bad Moon Rising', I cannot say that my next read will be 'Every Breath You Take' although, to be fair, I will continue with the saga for the time being. This isn't to say readers of gritty northern life will be disappointed; it's just that her earlier stories were better.
