Great album 19 May 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I've always been a huge Sabbath fan, all periods from the Ozzy era till Born Again.
The two albums featuring some Bill Ward vocals (Technical ecstasy and Never say die) are among my least favourites, and I've never especially liked his singing.
This is probably why I never really paid attention to his solo releases, until a few weeks ago when I came upon this cd "Living Naked", which is in fact the re-release of his first solo album "Ward One: Along the way".
I read a few reviews about Ward One, and I thought I'd give it a try based on those critics but also the guests musicians featuring on the album (mainly Ozzy and Jack Bruce).
This is no dissapointment! A truely great album, very diversified, sometimes atmospheric, sometimes really heavy, always somehow a bit "off".
One might say it is patchy, due to the different moods and different vocalists, I say it's an interesting craft.
The drumming reminds of Sabbath (Ward is definitly THE groove of Sabbath), the guitar parts are in the spirit of late (the Wall) Pink Floyd, the songs are a mix of traditional hard rock, softer rockers and noise effects and other experimentation, always very tasty, with maybe the exception of the too obvious "Bombers".
A real treat for the open-minded Sabbath fans, definitly something different and interesting.

I recieved this as a gift as it was on my list to buy.
I had not seen the track listing prior to adding to my list thinking it was a new album.
It is in fact a CD re-issue of Bill Ward's first solo album which I have on vinyl. Had I known this I would not have bothered.
It was just an average album when released, Bill Ward was going through a bad patch in his life and it's jumble of messed up songs with no real direction.
It's worth getting the album for the two tracks which Ozzy guest vocals on, but it is no Black Sabbath album.
I also have Bill Ward's other solo album on which his son plays drums, which is also pretty poor.
My advice, unless you are a die hard Sabbath fan from the 70's like me, don't bother.
