By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Lactose intolerance is unfortunately not that well-known in the UK compared to other food allergies/intolerances. When I tried to find a book about LI I could not find a British one and ended up buying this one simply because it was cheap. It may be cheap, but it is very good though. It's a no-frills book (the paper is horrible) but full of facts and advice. There are chapters on the causes of LI, how it is diagnosed, treatment, other diseases that can be mistaken for LI and nutrition. I think this is an ideal book for anyone who has recently been diagnosed and wants further information. Many doctors don't know much about LI so you do need to do a lot of research yourself. This book is very American. The statistics mostly relate to the US as do the organisations and treatments listed. Some treatments used in the US are not available in the UK and readers need to be aware of this. This is a very informative book though and at this price you can't really go wrong.

Useful and user-friendly 5 Dec 2001

Useful information about the condition and how to cope with it presented in a highly readable/understandable Q&A format. This is a perfectly serviceable book if you only want one, although "Milk Is Not For Everybody", a more comprehensive but more expensive book, earns a higher recommendation.
